Apple: Greatest Consumer Technology Company in the World?
Jobs Has Sold His 10 Million iPhones
As for your 12M total this year, I think 5M units in Xmas is the conservative figure, based upon Apple's past performance with the EDGE iPhone and iPod. The aggressive figure would be 10M units for Xmas. That would put 2008 totals in the 15M to 20M range.

Apple Earnings: What to Expect (And Who Not to Believe)
I'd say that it's almost stupid how they present the information, so I'd take anything that the Changewave guy said with a HUGE grain of salt. He has an angle and he will promote it. Didn't he say he's a "short" specialist?
Here's the article on SA where Paul Carton, Mr.Shulman's colleague showed off his nonsensical charts. Just stare at the x-axis and tell me that the data is valid for trendspotting?!?

Apple Introduces MacBooks with "Unibody" Construction
Actually, the model that got cut, was the old mid-range $1299 Macbook, so that was a $300 price cut. The old entry-level $1099 Macbook, was dropped.
End of the Line for Apple's FireWire
What Apple has done, is drop FW for those who manage their harddrive with FW bootups. I do that, but my Macs laptops are both 5 years old. At the consumer level, FW has been dying a slow death. Apple dropped FW sync from its iPods a while back, and the iPhone lost FW power, in the 2nd generation. So, while FW is better than USB, it's become the Sony Beta to VHS; however it will live on just like Sony Beta at the professional level.
Apple's New Line: Can It Make Headway in a Recession?
If you think about it, if Apple had chopped $300 off the old-entry level model at $1099, that would have been the magical $799 rumor that one person was touting. BUT, Apple typically drops the lowest model, and moves everything done one notch, when intro'ing new products.

Awaiting Apple Earnings and Guidance
I'm fine with deferred revs, if analysts were building it into their models but they aren't. After 8 quarters, we should have the full effect of iPhone sales in earnings, but you don't see analysts making that adjustment at all.
Google Phone: "Dream Phone" Might Be a Little Strong
I like the idea of Android, but as long as the cell carriers act as gatekeepers, then Android is hamstrung. It's great if a developer writes a tethering app or a Voip app, but if the cell carrier does not allow tethering or Voip, what good does that do you?
There are 3 players involved here. The hardware manufacturer, the OS, and the cell carrier. For the most part, the cell carrier dictated to the manufacturer what features would be allowed, I don't see how Android will change that.
