  • Basement Biotech: Threat to the Industry [View article]
As someone working in Biotech, let me tell you that creating value is this arena is and will continue to be far more people-intensive than you see in, say, software. Big Pharma will always desire empirical data, and two or three people in a basement will have a hard time providing that. Drugs are not arrived at in silico, but through considerable testing and experimentation.

  • The Gaming Wars: Microsoft Trying to Make Life Difficult for Sony (MSFT, SNE) [View article]
They also like gaming as a means to push DirectX over OpenGL.

Which won't work, since the latter has such broad support among developers.

If I were a MSFT shareholder, I'd be pretty mad that haven't axed their money-losing game division.

  • A New iTunes Rip-Off? Microsoft Reinventing Itself in all the Wrong Ways (MSFT) [View article]
MSFT = GM in the 1970's. Apple, Google, Yahoo are Honda, Toyota, and Datsun. You all know what GM is doing to survive-- cutting headcount and benefits. MSFT has been playing the China/India cheap labor game, and that might be part of the reason they can't seem to achieve a releasable version of Vista. You get what you pay for.

  • Adobe Comments on Its MacTel Support (ADBE, AAPL) [View article]
The clock is ticking on Adobe. When Apple decided to get into DV, they launched Final Cut Pro and POOF-- Premiere was road kill. Apple could extinguish Acrobat, since the PDF format is NATIVE to Mac OSX with just a little work. Apple could "embrace and extend" GIMP and annhilate Photoshop. What Adobe has, mostly, which would be hard to kill is Flash (though that other dianosaur company, MSFT, is trying).

I can't construct a scenario for ADBE that doesn't look like a downward spiral.
