  • Offer for Allied Nevada was fake [View news story]
I knew there was something wrong when the tender was only dated 10 days away.

It'll be interesting to see if something comes of this "offer".

  • If You're Going To San Francisco [View instapost]
Well the weather should be fantastic (as far as SF goes) it's a chilly 60 (joke for the freezing people), and surely going to be sunny.

We only had 1/4 of our normal rainfall in 2013, and we didn't get much to begin with...

  • Selling Puts As A Substitute For Fixed Income [View instapost]
Great instablog - I had not heard of HVPW before - I only write puts on small caps, so this ETF is definitely worth a deeper look.

Just out of curiosity ... why couldn't this get published now ?

Schwab does have this program, but you have to have a big account... sorry not sure how big.

And IB does as Owen mentions.

"What the heck is going on?

Interest rates going up = (rightly or wrongly) mREITs going down.

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that Taper (real or just another pretend Taper) will drive up interest rates...

  • Will Tesla's Insurance Cost Offset The Gas Savings? [View instapost]
Something I don't see mentioned often is the ~7k battery insurance - that's more than I'd spend on gas for awhile...

Most care fires are from thrown rods or other engine catastrophe's (not accidents).

Also I'd be willing to wager that your average new Tesla is being driven far less miles than your average new car.

  • Tax-Free 8% Yields? Check Out Bargain-Price Muni Bond CEFs [View article]
You can track NAV's for CEFs in Yahoo - most of the symbols have an X at the beginning and end of the symbol.

    AKP is XAKPX

(That's how I do it anyway.)

Considering there are only 100 million households in the US... 120M would be a stretch. (I can't see how they even get to 40m subs in the US.)

  • Tax-Free 8% Yields? Check Out Bargain-Price Muni Bond CEFs [View article]
Although I hold some Muni CEFs there is always a risk that they limit what a person can earn tax free. Muni's would definitely take a beating if this happened.

Municipalities would of course balk at this... but ya never know what kind of crazy deal might get done in Washington.

  • Why Microsoft Needs To Make Windows And Office Free [View article]
I said trackball not mouse. Kensington never released drivers for my old trackball (for 64-bit), so it didn't work at all, and their new one which is allegedly fully compliant ... isn't fully complaint. Yes, I complained to Kensington many times... I need their trackball more than I needed a new OS. XP worked fine, but eventually I had to give in and get a new PC.

I have carpal tunnel - can't use standard mouse.

My keyboard has a bunch of extra keys for macros and stuff which I can't live without !

FYI I spent hours and hours researching and trying to find solutions, but others had same problems, and there are no solutions - thankfully M$FT doesn't make cars.

  • Why Microsoft Needs To Make Windows And Office Free [View article]
Not entirely accurate as Office 2000 doesn't work on Win 7 unless you get Pro and then jump through a bunch of hoops.

  • Dear Tesla Bulls: That's Not How You Calculate Tesla's Value [View article]
Is minimum wage going to 50$/hr and someone forgot to mention it ?

8/10 top selling cars are around 20k MSRP. Even if they get a model with a 35k price tag it'll still be near double what most people spend on a car.

Luxury car market is a pretty steady 1.2m units/year (of 15m total) - the 500k unit prediction is beyond ludicrous.
