To say that AppleTV's audio and video quality is a disappointment is to fail to understand the actual issues.
AppleTV can handle full HD video with digital surround sound using Dolby Digital or DTS. That's as high quality as an HD broadcast or Blu-Ray. The problem isn't what AppleTV can handle, but that most of what people view on it comes from the iTunes store, which uses less than standard definition resolution and only stereo sound.
Apple could upgrade the quality of the video offerings from iTunes and have HD content with surround sound immediately available to existing AppleTV owners without having to do a thing to the hardware, or even updating the software.
While it could have been one big holder selling a huge position, there's also the distinct possibility that AAPL and RIMM were hit by cascading stop loss orders after they'd started falling. As they dropped more, even more stop loss orders kicked in, flooding the market with sell orders. This is especially probably with companies like these that have gotten so much press over the last couple of years that they're held by a huge number of investors, many of whom aren't so savvy.

Also remember that the $100 million is a rebate, being deducted from the revenue from the iPhone, which is being accounted for over 24 months. This doesn't take $100 million from the current quarter, it takes $12.5 million from each of the next 8 quarters and moves it into retail revenues for the current quarter. And since it's store credit, even if there really are 1 million people eligible for the rebate (there probably aren't) and every single one claims the rebate (they probably won't), Apple's retail margins are high enough that $100 million worth of retail priced merchandise at the Apple stores doesn't cost Apple $100 million -- and it gets the consumers back in the door of the Apple Store...
