  • Small caps paint scary technical picture [View news story]
"technical ideas, noting Tuesdays this year have typically been positive, but not this week"

You consider the coincidence that the market is sometimes up on Tuesdays a "technical idea"?

  • Terex Needs A Jolt Of Growth To Head Higher [View article]
You seem preoccupied with Terex's stalled growth and appear to attribute it to the company's failings rather than on a mix of a stalled economy, delayed or scrapped corporate and governmental infrastructure spending, severe winter, and an American society looking at huge unemployment and under-employment. TEX will do fine as the economy gains steam.

  • 11 Infrastructure Stocks To Watch [View article]
Alex Gray -- I assembled an rtf-like mix of stocks to capture some of the transportation market and have just read, enjoyed, and appreciated your posting as I begin to do the same thing for infrastructure and construction. While CBI has been a favorite holding for a couple of years, many of the stocks you cite are not familiar to me. Thanks for a good article.

  • Old Economy Strikes Again: Why Investors Need To Keep A Close Eye On This Rail Stock [View article]
"If Union Pacific was [were] to miss consensus substantially and surprise with a softening in its freight business, then that's a big signal that economic conditions are in trouble."

I think that your language is a little too strong. While Union Pacific is one of many corporations whose growth, earnings, and overall success are seen as indicators of the health of the U.S. economy, there are reasons why UNP could report revenue below estimates without leading to the conclusion that the economy is in trouble.

  • It's academic: Consumers don't need dealerships [View news story]
I think that Girotra makes some good points that perhaps could justify at least the consumer's option to buy directly from the manufacturer while allowing dealerships to continue to offer their traditional service and sales. This article comes at an intriguing time as Tesla is being blocked in at least one state from selling its cars without their going through a dealership.

  • Biotech Sell-Off Brings Value To U.S. Healthcare Stocks [View article]
In many cases, the stock market overcorrects and then swings back almost as strongly before prices finally end up in reasonable places. The world population is growing and aging, catastrophic weather events are increasingly frequent and devastating, environmental quality is degrading, and healthcare centers are often overwhelmed by demands. A few days of price drops for XBI and XPH do not worry me because of the amazing, long-term prospects for investment in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.

  • Janet Yellen Didn't Gaffe [View article]
I wish that along with criticism and sniping that critics of Yellen and the Fed would offer some better ideas. What should she be saying? How would you in her place offer better projections and explanations?

  • FDA New Molecular Entities - Finding Them Ahead Of Approval But Also Ahead Of The Herd [View article]
Thanks for this fascinating, perceptive, and well-written look at what moves markets for NMEs. I've abandoned purchasing shares of individual biotech stocks in favor of investing through the XBI etf because I would need a stronger background in science and more time than I can afford to keep up with and assess frequent and complex changes in the marketplace. You have piqued my interest about the New England Journal of Medicine and helped bring some clarity to what seems an enigmatic but exciting area of investment.
