  • Apple aftershocks: Maybe it's Toyota that should be worried?  [View news story]
Not a single fact appears in this multi-statement posting. Is speculation replacing news on Seeking Alpha?

  • Why Healthcare Cost Reform Could Be The Greatest Stimulus Of All  [View article]
    buyitcheap -

A major problem in rising medical costs arises when doctors and the hospitals or practices for which they work order or promote expensive testing and procedures that are often not medically justified. If there were some way to remove government from the medical services equation, I suspect that costs would continue to rise, but patients' rights and safety might be further jeopardized.

You pose an interesting idea. Do you have a vision for calculating reasonable health care costs? How might we balance the prodigious time required and costs entailed in developing new drugs and research-based procedures against the need for more affordable health care?

  • Why India Has Embarked On A Long-Term Bull Market - Part 6  [View article]
I enjoyed your article and share your sense that India seems poised for economic and infrastructure growth. I've bought shares in INCO, INXX, and SMIN (rather than SCIN) for the lower ER, generally better performance, and higher levels of investment in industry, technology, basic materials, and health care, and in medium and small companies.

Rather than posting a cliche'-ridden diatribe, why not set out carefully and in detail what you believe would be a wiser and potentially more successful fiscal approach than the ECB's QE plan of action?

Good article, and I love your comment, "As (relative) outsiders, we've also noticed that Americans themselves are sometimes less aware of the resilience and genius of the place, which has provided opportunities to buy at reasonable prices."

  • Toronto-Dominion Bank: A Growing Bank With A Rising Dividend  [View article]
I appreciate your writing the article and agree that TD Bank and other Canadian banks present great prospects with good entry points. The current drop in the price of oil has some investors overly concerned, in my opinion, about Canada's economy weakening, but recover it will. For the long run, investing in good banks in a strong country with extraordinary natural resources, an excellent educational system, and a very capable and international population seems smart and prescient -- especially while earning a dividend of over 4% while Canada's economy regains strength. Investments in BMO, BNS, CM, NTIOF, RY, and TD now comprise about one-fifth of my portfolio - offering an average dividend yield of 4.08% at a payout ratio of 46.3%.

It is interesting to think about applying the ideas that you articulately put forth in a period when the volatility of investors seems at least as big a factor as the volatility of investments.
