David, sounds like a wonderful trip and amazing analogy about "time". I took my granddaughter on a road trip up the Pacific Coast Hwy stopping in Santa Barbara with Big Sur our ultimate destination a year after my husband died (it was one of our favorite places). There wasn't ANY cell service, wifi....nada, none, zip. It took me a half hour to get her to sit under the stars and listen to the bubbling brook. Once she was finally quiet, she was amazed at the wonder and beauty of just being still. Add this one to your bucket list: where the mighty Redwood Trees meet the beautiful blue Pacific.

Amen RY.....me too, only my head would hurt trying to assimilate all the analyst research....SA has taught how to read it, what's most important and how to SWAN.....

Thank you David for your detailed response and your current thought process. I'm VERY pleased you will not be participating in the new "pay-to-read" model.....at least not at this juncture. Your contributions, the knowledge, education you offer in every article has helped me build a foundation I didn't know I needed. The community, the comments following every article is priceless. I know there are many, many novices like me who treasure what you and the other prime Dividend authors deliver every time you pen an article. If you guys chose the pay for model, I won't hold against you, but fear I wouldn't be able pay. I want you to know just how valuable you are to me. I've learned more, made many wise buy/sell decisions reading you & SA (and authors previously mentioned) than ALL my years paying my former high priced UBS broker. Thank you for all you do and continue to do.

Thank you Canadian & Scenic!!!! It will be heartbreaking if SA chooses to go the pay-to-read route vs monetizing the eyeballs, click thrus and community & comment sections while charging advertisers a premium to be located in these areas. I wouldn't even mind an ad in the middle of an article and/or in the middle of a long stream of comments.......it's clear this community is large, loyal and will likely command a premium in ad dollars, IF DONE RIGHT

Rose, if you find somewhere as valuable as SA let us know.

Perhaps you can help me drive the best authors we like to FAST GRAPHS, encouraging Chuck to add content providing same incentives as SA offers the free content authors!!!!!!

Tstreet, I agree with you!!!! I use analyst's commentary if I find a stock of interest. I use FAST GRAPHS, for much of my DD.
It seems to me most analyst have a short-term view. 6-12 months. Some of my favorite DIY dividend investor authors provide much deeper analysis than the "experts"......and SA authors, for the most part are writing, recommending from personal experience. The few authors I follow who are professionals provide excellent information and offer a great foundation for me to dig deeper.

If the people come, you can monetize enough, unless you're greedy or planning on going public....

I did and love it!!! Worth every penny!!!! Maybe Chuck would consider adding free content (I.e., the contributors move from SA to FAST GRAPHS with similar page view compensation!!!!!) woo, that's a great idea!!!!

Hey Chuck, Mike, David, David, Chowder, Rich, Robert, Bob...... What say you!!!!!

Larry, I agree!!! I don't read SA for the Hedge Managers articles or other paid analysis, or "quote" experts......I come here to drink my morning coffee and listen to what like minded, more experienced than me, people are investing in and why, then maybe interact with the community in some very interesting, educational, fun ways......the community!!!!!!

There are volumes of "experts" I can pay to read their "so excellent" advise.....but I found 9 out of 10 times, they're behind my SA community friends!!!!!!

I would think those authors who have a significant number of followers and inspire significant comments have already proved their value.

Perhaps something more along an a la carte model for those authors who would write something more detailed, in-depth than what they already do....either bullet points to give reader idea of depth of particular article, or executive style summary.

However, with that said, David Crosetti, David VanKnapp, Michael Nadel, would your articles proved anymore value to your readers than what you already do? Do you want to earn (need) more money for your articles????

Well, that certainly adds another nail in the coffin!!!

Early in the dot com boom I went to my manager (equal to a publisher on the print side) and inquired about our marketing objectives to drive more eyeballs......at this time our stock had climbed 90 points in one week!!! Yes, Microsoft had just invested $300 million to the company (I'm sad to say I was instrumental in that deal) well, my manager said "insert my last name here......don't worry about it!!!! Go look at your stock"!).....

That provided zero benefit or value for my customers and the product I WAS selling no longer provided the service I signed on to sell......I left shortly thereafter.....and the company's hay day was over
