  • The Apple Vs. Google Battle Has Changed [View article]
Yeah, but it still riles me that Google was working on Android while the Google CEO was sitting on Apple's BOD. Then Google gives Android away for free to Apple's competitors while Apple spends millions and millions of dollars developing its iOS.

Apple Pay gets Apple a small amount of revenue from the banks since the banks have will have lower losses from stolen credit cards, etc. It also makes iOS products even more attractive to buyers of mobile devices.

Tim Cook may very well be the executive to push Apple far higher than Jobs could have. Time will tell, but he seems to be making the right moves now.

And where would Avalon and all the dozens of other miners and would-be miners get their ores processed?????

BTW, Lynas has access to deposits of the heavy REEs.

There are a lot of miners or companies that plan to mine REEs, but there aren't many outside of China who can refine REEs. However those that have spent multi--millions to develop facilities to produce the actual REEs (Lynas , for example) have had very limited success. Have you looked at the price of LYSDY lately?

It's a potential problem for a very wide range of industries that use REEs. Various of these rare earths are used in all sorts of applications. The prices from the Chinese have prevented competitors outside China from becoming successful -- although quite a few have tried.

BTW, the chairwoman for the American Association of Manufacturers says the US does 21% of the world's manufacturing and China is #2 at 15%. China assembles lots of stuff using parts from elsewhere and manufactures lots of toaster ovens, etc., while we make lots of heavy equipment.

" However, doesn't it strike anybody as odd that while the iPad Mini is selling out, the iPad 4 is readily in-stock?"

Not especially odd. Maybe they under-estimated the mini sales and planned the iPad 4 just right. Or maybe the iPad 4 sales were over-estimated. Whatever, not a big deal.

Jobs said a lot of things. You can't necessarily take his statements as what he really believed.

Android did not start out as open source. Google's attempt to torpedo a former friend.

When Apple develops new product categories, you can't blame them for trying to protect themselves from copycats. Again, I think there's something rotten when Google subsidizes Apple's competition by giving them Android at no cost.

Much (most?) of the recent decline of Apple's share price is because of profit-taking and fear of the financial cliff. Don't be surprised if the share price approaches and maybe passes the high of 2012.

If you look at the service ratings in Consumer Reports, Apple is at the top.

Samsung sold/sells it for a lot cheaper because Google spent millions developing Android and then gave it to Apple's competitors!!!!

Google was developing Android while the Google CEO was on Apple's BOD. Apple spends millions on its iOS, and Google subsidizes Apple's competitors. Arghhhhh!

Once you develop a product to a certain point, improvements are largely incremental -- not revolutionary. That's simply the way things are.

Apple's eco-system and better policing of apps keeps them ahead.

Buy the stock now and sell in 7 1/2 months if that prediction is correct. Makes sense to me.

"which enhanced and changed existing smartphone ideas"

Yes, enhanced to the point that the iPhone was revolutionary.
