I see one more benefit to Microsoft (MSFT) from this investment into B&N (BKS). B&N, because of its e-reader business, has accumulated a wealth of consumer credit card information as all those who buy ebooks online pay "by the drink". This is a very valuable asset when trying to enter the retail market.
I do not hold any positions in MSFT or BKS and do not plan on initiating any position in the next 72 hours.
