"There's no way" Sprint's (S) attempt to buy Clearwire (CLWR +0.6%) succeeds without a higher bid, says Taran Asset Management's Chris Gleason, one of many institutional Clearwire investors planning to vote against Sprint's $2.97/share offer at Tuesday's meeting. Reuters has uncovered investors holding 31% of Clearwire's public (non-Sprint-owned) shares who oppose the current deal; Sprint needs a majority of public shares to be voted in favor. Clearwire is trading 10% above Sprint's offer price, and 1% below Dish's $3.30/share offer price. (previous) [View news story]
I agree with Agg that CLWR holders will get S shares and since I have both what's there to lose or the big deal. I voted for the proposal and got two more ballots in the mail including the gold ballot from disgruntled somebodies.

I have Tmobile and not only is it the cheapest with its new BYOP plan for cheap, but as long as it's not an old blackberry the service is pretty darn good as well as the coverage, which is big in the big cities. Don't know about the small towns. Recall it is out of Germany and I used to hold their stock.
PayPal (EBAY) is pulling out all the stops to challenge Square in the iPad cash register space: it's now offering free payment processing for 2013 to any U.S. business that exchanges a register for a PayPal Here solution, which includes a stand, cash drawer, and printer. Meanwhile, Square is rolling out a $299 stand/card swiper for its iPad solution, and Groupon (GRPN) is launching a register app, rebranding its mobile payments unit (includes a restaurant app) as Breadcrumb, and offering $5K in free payment processing to new clients. VeriFone (PAY) and NCR, whose traditional offerings are threatened by the likes of Square, also offer iPad point-of-sale solutions, as does NetSuite's (N) Retail Anywhere unit. [View news story]
James Altucher: Why The Stock Market Is A Sucker's Game Right Now (And What Stocks I Own) [View article]
Hell what you say? You can throw darts at stocks in this market and make money. It does not take a crystal ball or even a little knowledge. To prove my point I even bought TESLA at 25 bucks or so and it has now doubled in price. But sadly I did not hold that one and used the money to buy Neftlix. Now, there's a pick for you at 55 buckeros!
The secret is in the holding sauce which I did not always follow. But I did with S now sitting at 7 something for which I paid 2 something and got the incentive from SA to get back into Sprint in a hurry, which I did.
Individuals Have No Business Picking Stocks? Really? [View article]
another strategy I have used successfully in terms of portfolio diversity: one third of cash in a CD; one half (direct from check) into 401 with some stocks holdings there; one third of available cash into my own stock picks (I use scottrade). I manage that myself and the first year I lost a lot, mostly because I did not hold it. Every stock I picked except for maybe two increased in value. I did 40K in stock trades! Over the top I know.
The Lumia 925 (NOK) is officially revealed. Thanks to its aluminum frame, it's ~50g lighter than the 920, and ~30g lighter than the 928. Otherwise, the specs resemble the 928's: a 4.5," 1280x768, OLED display, a dual-core, 1.5 GHz., Qualcomm (QCOM) processor, and an 8.7MP camera with optical image stabilization. There's no xenon flash, but there is an advanced camera app that leverages Scalado. Nokia will be charging a steep unsubsidized price of €469 ($609) when the 925 hits China and Europe this June. But T-Mobile USA (TMUS) is expected to sell it for less than $100 subsidized. Shares -5%. Were investors expecting a 41MP sensor PureView phone? [View news story]
"I think Netflix (NFLX +4.1%) could be this decade's Amazon," says Whitney Tilson in a Yahoo talk (video). Though Tilson admits to "trimming" his position during Netflix's run-up, he still considers it undervalued relative to other media providers - "They're trading at $400 per subscriber in a world of $1,000 per sub" - and argues its scale gives it a big edge - "Who else is going to spend $3 billion a year for streaming content?" Of course, many of the firms valued at $1,000/sub are getting a lot more than $8/month. Netflix investors seem to be betting the company's library and customer loyalty will allow it to raise prices over time. (U.K. deals) [View news story]
I held onto a few shares in the event there was another runup. This is not a pump and dump. I will buy more when I can if the price is right.
