AT&T (T) has bumped up its 2012 smartphone sales forecast to 26M from 25M, while adding 6.4M smartphones were sold over the first 2 months of Q4. For reference, Ma Bell sold 6M smartphones in the first 2 months of Q4 last year, and 6.1M in the whole of Q3. The disclosure is a modest positive for Apple (AAPL), given the iPhone accounted for 77% of AT&T's Q3 smartphone sales. And also for Synchronoss (SNCR), whose software provisions and activates AT&T's smartphones. [View news story]
Subscribers at China Mobile (CHL), the country's largest cellular operator, will be able to order Nokia's (NOK) Windows 8 based Lumia 920T by the end of the month for 4,599 yuan ($739) without a contract. That's a bit later than the November launch that was initially envisaged, although it still beats Apple to the punch, as China Mobile doesn't yet carry an iPhone. Nokia jumps 6% in Helsinki. ELD is all you say is true, why is NOK rising, i guess investors just dont believe you, no creditibilty, you have weak profile
Nokia (NOK +5.5%) has shot higher in afternoon trading, apparently thanks to a Bloomberg report the company will soon announce a deal to sell a Lumia 920 variant to China Mobile (CHL) that will support the latter's TD-SCDMA 3G network. However, this is old news: China Mobile announced it would sell the phone, known as the Lumia 920T, back in October. The fact China Mobile still doesn't have an iPhone deal could give 920T sales a boost. [View news story]

Monday, December 3, 10:08 AM Nokia Siemens (NOK, SI) has agreed to sell its optical networking business, which has struggled to cope with tough competition and weak carrier capex, to P-E firm Marlin Equity Partners. One analyst estimates the deal, which affects 1,900 employees, could be worth €200M ($261M), depending on the patents involved. NSN has been busy slashing jobs and selling off product lines (I, II, III) this past year. The company's operating profit saw a €410M Q/Q improvement in Q3.

Strengths •Very strong patent portfolio: Quoting: “Some experts argue Nokia’s patent portfolio alone could amount to Nokia’s 2.50 Euros per share value, while others value it at 20 percent that estimate.” •Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) pays Nokia substantial royalties for use of their technology. •The Lumia 920 is AT&T’s top seller according to Mobilemag.com . The phone is also selling out at Amazon.com. •Receives $250 million in platform support payments from Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) each quarter. •Dare I go against the grain and say “management.” When Stephen Elop came to Nokia in 2010, he came aboard a fast sinking ship taking on water. The easiest thing he could have done was maintain the status quo, but he realized as far behind they were to Apple that a radical overhaul was needed. Nokia might yet succumb to the pressures of all the competition, but at least in making the internally unpopular decision to overhaul the company, and go with the Microsoft Windows 8 platform, he gave Nokia a chance to succeed. •The Lumia has garnered some really positive reviews. •The Nokia-Siemens Network (NSN) had its first profitable quarter in Q3 of this year. (*see below*) •Brand name still has great value, especially in developing markets and Europe. (not so much in America) •Has strong mapping software that is an alternative to Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Maps.
Initial reports of sellouts for Nokia's (NOK) Windows Phone 8 Lumia hardware are "misleading," thinks Deutsche's Kai Korschelt, since they have much to do with supply issues. "Anecdotal evidence suggests that many stores have only received 5-20 devices/store with wider carrier distribution delayed in some countries," Korschelt writes, while speculating 28nm chip shortages are to blame. He also claims U.K. retail survey and Google search interest data for the Lumia line is underwhelming. (Raymond James) [View news story]

or it could mean they want to get 'here" app on android, but nothing wrong with making other OS phones, a phone manufactor should make what ever they need to make to be profitable, at some point Microsoft contract to pay NOK to make window phone only will have to end, and NOK can make what ever is nessary to be profitable. I dont see why NOK doesnt license app OS, apple uses NOK patents...
