  • Apple iWatch: A Big Deal Or Not? [View article]
Thinking you will regret this comment, if Apple names the rumored device the "iWatch" :) I get your point, but just saying.

"In this world, it doesn't matter if customers are running away from cable TV contracts. What matters is that they're still buying bits from the same cable companies."

Nice quote. I'm amused at those who believe TV cord cutters matter to the big cable companies and their, at best, duopolies. You're basically unplugging one side of a splitter with the other one plugged into the cable modem you need for the replacement content. So the cable co. just increases your inet connection fees $30 a month because you "broke their bundle". And there's no stopping them from continuing to increase your inet connection fees while giving you token increases in bandwidth just like Verizon FiOS did a few years ago.

  • Apple: Short-Term Caution Is Justified [View article]
My guess is Apple is finishing up the rest of their buyback program before announcing a bigger one. The 60 day timeframe Cook gave is running out soon.

I.E. trying to explain the recent short term stock price increase despite market volatility.

    Heads up. I think this..

but there were numerous reports throughout the quarter that Apple had slashed production of 5C units, and at one-point, shifted production exclusively to the 5C.

    should be this...

Looks like a hash is what they are going to do. That's good news I was worried when I heard "encryption" vs. "hashing" in the presentation. But it's not uncommon to exec level folk to use those terms interchangeably.

  • Pricing Of New iPhone Will Determine Success Of Apple In China [View article]
Nice shot. Here's one back. I do have an Android powered time machine. Turns out Apple's 5C wasn't about making a cheaper phone for their customers, it was about making a cheaper phone for them! You know, because their margin's are so awful. I can see them running around 1 infinite loop, infinitely worrying about a 5% decrease in margins. OMG we need more profit per sale!

Uh no now I'm really turning into a fan-droid. Of course wishing I had 650 shares of GOOG instead of AAPL is a good reason for that too.
    Here's hoping I'm wrong...

While I'm certainly not a doing business in China expert, what do your points have to do with the article's topic? Are you saying the Chinese would rather to pay 550 for the 5C instead of the 350 it should have cost because they can brag to their friends, so you believe Apple made the right call in the price point?
I'm genuinely curious on your opinion.

Completely agree. Maybe the win will be introduction of subsidy with China Mobile vs. the usual buy up front model. But that's pretty much untested outside the US, right?

Agreed. Wow, I knew Apple execs are arrogant greedy bastards but this really takes the cake. I guess I'll hold until the China Mobile presentation and see if it's cheaper somehow for them.

    Really disappointing.

There are a lot of unknowns about the fingerprint sensor, but statements like "just lift the print off the phone's glass" by another commenter are ridiculous. It could be like NFC (went no where) or could be revolutionary it's all conjecture at this point.

Auth is done by 1 or more of 3 factors.
    Something you have
    Something you are
    Something you know

So the more factors you can layer into it the more secure it will be.

Also I'd hope the algorithm would turn the print into some sort of hash (not reversible) of the data points your print represents. So that your print is never exposed in the phone's storage just in RAM for a short time.

  • Carl Icahn Spells The End Of An Era At Apple [View article]
You know I had a similar gut reaction to the tweet that moved Apple's price. But then I thought, why should he not be allowed to do so? I've seen other comments bitching about how there are different rules for the wealthy compared to the small fry investor. But then these people argue for the very thing they lament about.

Because Ichan bought 1 billion instead of 1 million or a 1 thousand he shouldn't be allowed to tell anyone? How is telling people you bought a lot of stock on the open market "manipulation"? People are calling it a pump and dump which is ridiculous ( I realize you didn't make that argument). But it seems wrong to call it manipulation as well. Someone saying they bought a stock legally should never be illegal unless you have insider information, right?

  • Sell In May: Here Comes The April Effect [View article]
I got an ugly first time introduction to the AMT in 2012 because of selling a good chunk of SIRI I held for years. It's lowest rate is 20% I believe for dividends and stocks. So don't be so fast to calculate that 15% rate if you are dumping a lot of shares.

I can't be the only one reporting almost all of 92010's comments. The idiot is constantly posting nothing but insults and comments on writers history, while adding nothing to the conversation. The very definition of a troll.

Every comment I've reported has been removed to date, wonder if there is a record of how many comments someone has had removed? If so Mr. "Beverly Hills High school" has to be right up there.

    Where's that ignore button SA?

  • Sirius XM: Take Rates In Connected Cars 'Higher' [View article]
I recently purchased a Ford with MyFordTouch late last year roughly 40k. It was my first time with such direct daily access to Sirius even though I've owned the stock since 2008. Anyway I have to say I've been disappointed in the quality of the music sound from siri vs. streaming Pandora. The bass is almost twice as strong on Pandora over the phone through bluetooth than siri service. Not to mention clearer and stronger even 20 on 20 or BPM euro dance stuff doesn't compare. When my 6 month is up I plan on keeping siri with the talk package only as the music doesn't sound as good as I thought it would. I have Sprint which is truly unlimited data and even streaming pandora as much as I do I haven't run into any limits with P. Just one guys opinion, curious if anyone else can compare the music quality of siri vs. pandora, is it just me?
