  • Comparing Dividend CEFs With ETFs: Which Are Better? [View article]
Rdcarleson: Sorry, but you are reading some old articles on AOD. They no longer do the high churn dividend capture that they did in the past. They are pretty much buy and holders now.
I Have had them for some time and the difference between the old way and the way they operate now is like day compared to night. The author is right, they have become a stellar performer since the change.

  • They're calling it the "DeMarco Trade," and it's nailing mortgage REITs (at least those who focus on Agency paper) already stung by vanishing interest spreads. Agency MBS paper has been falling in price since the election, as Ed DeMarco's days as FHFA chief seem numbered, paving the way for principal forgiveness, "the mother of all pre-payment waves." [View news story]
Mortgage REITs were one of the few ways individual investors had to make a little money . To the Obama administration investment income is a sin. That will soon be gone, thanks to government meddling.

  • An ETF To Capture The Cybersecurity Boom [View article]
Cyber security is a rapidly growing and evolving business. In my opinion too fast to be stable. My son in law is in the business and moves from one company to another every year or two. He just moved again last month-for a $ 50 000 raise. Plus a handful of stock. The company he went to is about a year old and hasn't made a dime of profit yet.

    Be careful.

Miniscule is a good way to put it. Less than 1/2 cent every third month is not very much to look forward to.

SMHD sounds like one I will buy too. However be careful about buying too early in it's young life. I did that with LMLP. It went up quickly and then fell like a rock. Now it has come back, but I am still down nearly $2.00 a share.

Darren: I looked it up yesterday. Of the 30 components of CEFL only NCV at +7.67 and NCZ at +11.96 are priced above NAV. Together they make up 4.15% of the fund.

  • How To Trade The 8% Yielding Alpine Total Fund Before It Splits And Raises Its Payout [View article]
All of you people down on AOD and Mr. Davis are behind the times.
It is true that Alpine still runs things but my understanding is that Alpine itself is under new management with a completely new way of running things. Conservative dividends and conservative holdings,Apple is the #1 stock held.

I have held it for some time now and am very satisfied with what is going on there now. (not before)

If you like a nice quiet stock with nice quiet dividends, one that lets you sleep well at night, this fits the bill nicely.
