  • BlackBerry (BBRY -0.4%) is downgraded to Underperform at Exane BNP, which says its profit pools are drying up. While news flow around the BB10 likely will remain the primary driver for the shares in the short-term, the firm says BBRY's long-term profitability prospects hinge essentially on the longevity of its service revenues, which are "unsustainable." [View news story]
BBRY was downgraded in the hopes that the share price drops and shares can be purchased with lower prices before the Q10 starts selling in the US. Profit pools drying up? LOL.

    -Cheers!

  • Are Android Apps Coming To Your BlackBerry? It Seems Likely [View article]
Thanks Michael B. for the article.

More and more good news regarding BBRY. The Android apps news, if true, will finally shut up so many people that like to ride that story. It's getting old (right, CNET?). As I write this BB has given up most of its nice gains today. We'll continue to have days like this one. Stay long and patient.

    -Cheers!

  • Heckmann (HEK) receives shareholder approval to change its name to Nuverra Environmental Solutions; shares will begin trading on the NYSE under a new NES ticker effective at the market open on May 20. [View news story]
I'm long NES as well and will add to my position on dips. Since NES is growing steadily I wonder now if one of the bigger competitors would make an offer to buy out NES in the not too distant future?

  • Blackberry (BBRY) is downgraded to Hold by Bernstein's Pierre Ferragu, who lowers his price target to $15 from $22. "We dislike the risk/reward of our BB10 trade," he writes. "With Blackberry Live behind us, we see few additional positive catalysts coming through in the next 6 months." Shares -2.3% premarket. [View news story]

  • The BlackBerry Q10 (BBRY -4%) will launch on Verizon and T-Mobile USA this June, and Sprint in "late summer." The Verizon/T-Mobile launches will come 2 months after the Q10 went on sale in the U.K. Meanwhile, Jefferies' Peter Misek continues singing BlackBerry's praises, stating checks leave him "very confident" about his 4M-unit BB10 shipment estimates for the May/August quarters, and that BES 10 will likely be "the main device management system" used by the DoD. BGR's Tero Kuittinen and Ovum's Adam Leach both argue the Q5 needs to be aggressively priced to win back share in emerging markets where low-end Android sales have skyrocketed. [View news story]
Ha, ha. Good post. Take care.

  • BlackBerry Messenger is coming to iOS and Android this summer, BlackBerry (BBRY -4.5%) announces at Live (webcast). Had this move been made 2-3 years ago, BlackBerry would've had a shot at dominating a giant mobile IM market. But now, it faces intense competition from the likes of WhatsApp, Kik, Viber, and Facebook Messenger, many of whom have 100M+ users. Nonetheless, an installed base of 60M users gives BBM a chance to make some headway. BlackBerry is also launching BBM Channels, a platform for connecting to brands and celebrities, and Thorsten Heins promises the iOS/Android versions of BBM will eventually support VoIP and screen sharing. [View news story]
You'll notice on the Blackberry alerts like the one above the report will start off with something relatively positive BUT then followed by the choreographed jab to the stomach or the kick to the shin negative sentence(s). Same 'ol, same 'ol.

    -Cheers!

Perhaps investors were hoping the Icahn news was true thus hoping an announcement on that today??? Actually the bears are on the prowl today. What better day to attack than today??

  • BlackBerry Is Keeping Its Promises To Launch New Devices And Services [View article]
    Hi TS Nelson:

Good point. I've noticed that. The doomsday headlines have been toned down dramatically. We've also seen bears little by little turn bullish on BBRY. More and more what Blackberry announces/does is being retweeted [on Twitter]. To me BB is like a 6 month old new company. The stock is heavily shorted. Only a few quarterly reports have been conducted during this brief period of time. You got to look LONG term with this company if you believe BB will be successful.

    -Cheers!

It was imperative for the shorts to knock the price down. This is not surprising. The shorts cannot allow BBRY to reach the $17 level. On the flip side the stock has rallied a bit lately and short term investors sold to pick up profits. Apple as of this moment has taken a hit today and NOK has given up almost all of its nice pop from yesterday so for me no worries.

    -Cheers!

  • Himax (HIMX +7.3%) is shooting higher yet again, and is close to its 52-week high of $7.10. SA contributor Proprietary Trading has made a bull case that declares the adoption of higher-resolution smartphone/tablet displays represents a major growth opportunity for the company, thanks to its growing mobile driver IC ops. Investor attention has been focused more on Himax's LCOS microdisplay business (and a possible Google Glass design win). [View news story]
Nice little pop so far today. Full steam ahead with this one.
Long HIMX and buying on the dips.

  • Nokia (NOK +4.5%) catches a 2-notch upgrade to Buy from Denmark's Danske Bank, and responds accordingly. The firm cites growing optimism about Nokia's debt-raising and turnaround abilities, and the improving performance of Nokia Siemens. Meanwhile, a teaser ad for an upcoming Lumia phone shows a device with an aluminum body and large lens. Is it the Catwalk phone, or a Lumia with a 41MP PureView sensor? Either way, odds are it'll be unveiled at tomorrow's London event[View news story]
It may be speculation and hype but I'm taking advantage of this rally and making some money. I can't stand on the sidelines and watch the stock go up.

  • BlackBerry (BBRY) +1.2% after Barron's provides a semi-favorable writeup about the potential of its BES 10 mobile device management (MDM) platform and network operations centers. The fact BlackBerry can pair its MDM software with a secure network could give it an edge, Barron's notes. However, it also points out MDM competition from startups (AirWatch, MobileIron) and bigger IT names (SAP, Citrix) is intense - Airwatch's chairman argues BES 10 is still "woefully behind" in supporting advanced management features for iOS/Android, such as FIPS 140 encryption. [View news story]
I don't know about the rest of you but for me it feels like the calm before the BIG storm.
    Long BBRY

    -Cheers!
