  • Target-MasterCard data breach settlement scrapped [View news story]
I understand that ChuckXX, that's why I said "somehow make $MA dive". Usually, people read something like this and overreact. I'm hoping their is a dumb reaction as I would like to accumulate more $MA. Cheers.

Mjk029-- your second sentence makes no sense. "There is some money in the software but profit margins are much lower.". Haha. What?!

  • BP's 6.3% Yield And Contrarian Indicators Make It A Buy [View article]
Timing the bottom, when will oil rebound? Heck, I don't know. I don't think anyone really knows. But in the meantime, I will continue to dollar cost average into the super majors. They all provide a great yield relative to the past and considering what's available in the market. I am also in the accumulation phase for building my portfolio. So, if anyone else is in the same boat, then don't worry about timing the bottom perfectly. Focus on sizing out your buys with consistency and enjoy the income for years to come. Cheers and good investing!

  • BP's 6.3% Yield And Contrarian Indicators Make It A Buy [View article]
Depending on what your goals and time frame are, BP has not been that bad of a choice. In your example using 3 years, in 2011 BP was trading around $34-$40 with a quarterly dividend of $0.42. Now, because my personal goal is to one day live off dividends, that dividend rate is what I focus on. Check out what happened from 2011-2014. The dividend moved like this. 2011=$0.42, 2012= $0.48-$0.54, 2013= $0.54-$0.57, 2014= $0.57-$0.585. That's an increase of $0.165 in 3 years! Yes, the capital appreciation has not been there. But as I said it depends on your goal. With a long term view, the dividends and dividend growth have been just fine. If you need the cash very soon, then don't buy BP. If cap returns are your goal, V and MA would have been an amazing choice a few months back on their dips. But if you are looking to create a long term income stream, as I am, you should welcome the opportunity to buy BP during this price pressure. Same goes with CVX and XOM honestly. Good luck out there!

  • The return of the inflated appraisal [View news story]
This should be a great opportunity for anyone wanting to refinance that couldn't before. Especially, those with a lower % of equity looking to get to that magical 20% LTV to remove PMI. Rates are still very low.

Very sad Seeking Alpha would post something like this without a source. I also like the mention of 17% down from Wednesday's close. Classic.

  • The Key Dividend Stock To Beat The S&P 500 This Coming Decade [View article]
Thank you Tim for providing insight into a great opportunity in Visa. This stock often gets overlooked due to it's low yield. As a person with a long time horizon to retirement, these are the types of gems I want to build a nice position in for the long haul. Keep up the good work!
P.S. I also enjoy your work on "The Conservative Income Investor". Well done.

A good opportunity to find Visa undervalued may be the debt ceiling debate that should begin again in February. The market basically yawned this time around, but hopefully the media can push more doom and gloom to bring these stocks down. I am planning to accumulate cash during this run up and standby for some fun in the months to come. "Never let a crisis go to waste"

Absolutely! The future potential dividend growth coupled with the large moat, make Visa an awesome long term holding. Good luck and enjoy your early retirement!

richjoy- I appreciate your comment. That is a spot on assessment. V is a tremendous opportunity if you have a longer time horizon. The business model is unbelievable and will continue to make money in any environment. Only 15% of the world's transactions use plastic. An amazing upside potential as time moves on. I am closer to Tim's age and plan to have Visa as a pillar to my DG portfolio. Cheers.
