Learned investing from my dad. I'm 72 so the bulk of my holdings are in variable annuities which will be passed-on to my heirs as tax-free Insurance Policies; 51% Small Cap, Diversified Income & Large Cap Income stocks/ 49% short-term Corp & High Yield Bonds, automatically rebalanced monthly. Also, have a Roth IRA, Traditional IRA & a Margin account to fool around with penny stocks, options, momentum stocks, mREITs, High Yield stocks, ETFs (bond/stock) and commodities. My best investments are MLPL, CLWR (bought-out), CLFD, TCX, QCOR & MORL. My worst are a lot of worthless penny stocks, but my #1 penny stock QCOR, made a gain of 5,200% in 5-years, plus many option plays w/gains like 508% to 678% on Calls and 159% to 521% on Puts. It has paid to know my #1 stock extremely well. #2 is CLFD up over 1400% in 6-years.
