  • Arena Pharmaceuticals (ARNA +8.2%) ramps higher today as the company moves closer than it's ever been to bringing its obesity drug Belviq to the U.S. market. A notice on the DEA's website says regulators have approved the scheduling of Belviq as a controlled substance. The notice will be published in the Federal Register tomorrow, and Belviq can be sold 30 days after.  [View news story]
They are holding in conjunction with Eisai a press conference later today.

  • Samsung's (SSNLF.PK) Galaxy S IV is a superb phone, if one can cope with a cheap plastic feel and too many gimmicks. That seems to be the consensus from the first full reviews. The Verge praises the S IV's display, camera, and performance, but still considers the HTC One a better bet. "The Galaxy S4 is fast and impressive, but it's also noisy and complex." TechCrunch and Gizmodo deliver similar takes. But others (I, II) make the case that more is ultimately better (this mindset has worked for Samsung thus far). The reviews arrive as Sprint and T-Mobile state their S IV launches will be delayed due to inventory issues. Key suppliers: QCOM, BRCM, SYNA, PANL, ATML, RFMD, TQNT. (previous[View news story]

  • Nokia Earnings: Lumia Emerging Market Sales In Focus  [View article]
I would expect the marketing to ramp up once they have the supply side of the smartphone segment sorted, their big problem this quarter was not being able to get their devices into the shops in the required numbers, Q2 will be better and Q3/Q4 will be very good for shareholders.

Lumia sales were in line with expectations considering the supply issues, an opportunity to accumulate more shares and wait for the end of the year where we will see a far better uptake of the lumia range.

In line with rational expectations and an opportunity to buy as the market over reacts to silly expectations.

    Hi Oldwarrior,
I expect by your username that you know Nokia is a long term play where investors have to be able to drown out the noise until the Lumia range gets a proper foothold which it is doing now.
At 12 pm the price will go up or down but will not change the long term potential of the company which at long last are doing all the right things for the future health of the company, its a pity they didnt have their supply system up to scratch when releasing the lumia range but slowly that is being rectified and we will see the benefit of that in the back end of the year.

The supply issues has knocked them back a lot imo, numbers may be good but they could and should have sold far more, I have no problem saying the 520 is going to frighten the other lower cost smartphone manufacturers.
I have been willing to allow them gain traction which happens over time.......I am extremely biased in my views that the Lumia range will gain traction and will be beneficial to shares in the short term but I dont include this quarter, they warned of supply issues and seasonality, we know they could not get enough 920s to china for their new year holidays,,,,,supply issues should be coming to an end or the fixes are at least identified and being worked on......conservatively I expect very good figures in the Q3/Q4 reports and will take the pain until we get them,

I would not expect a blow out quarter until Q3 or Q4 this year.
I also pay no attention to analysts cold calling consumers who have better things to be doing than wasting their time answering stupid questions.

Actual results will be with guidance, if there was a material difference between guidance and results they would have released interim results within the last two weeks as they have done previously.
