From recent released information, it would appear that iOS phones are still sold at a high margin compared to other phones. Until that changes, why would RIM sell their phones at a higher price than the iOS phones? If, as stated in the article, RIM's global strategy is to undercut the buy in cost, then why would they stop this with the new phones?
Also, everyone keeps forgetting how small the U.S. market actually is compared to Asia.
Even if the iOS on BB10/Playbook never gets beyond the development stage (YouTube videos http://bit.ly/OXIANm), the ease at porting and creating BB10 apps and the push by RIM to please developers, iOS advantage of apps is slowly fading away. Without the "10 cagillion apps!! " claim, what does Apple have? They aren't the leader anymore, Android is. And Android is splintering and showing to be not very secure.
With the launch of the BB10 devices in about 6 months, do Android and iOS have enough of a foothold in these areas to make a difference when what differentiates them from BlackBerry goes away with the BB10 phones?
Research In Motion (RIMM): FQ1 EPS of -$0.37 misses by $0.36. Revenue of $2.81B (-43% Y/Y) misses by $300M. 7.8M BlackBerries shipped, down from FQ4's 11.1M. 260K PlayBooks shipped, down from FQ4's 500K. Operating loss expected for FQ2. I guess pointing out that having 300 more brands of soap hasn't prevented those 300 brands from making money.

Handing out the Alpha devices at the BB Jams seems to have had a very positive result. Investing in the developers who will make the apps, that apparently the consumers require for a phone to have would be the logical way to gain market share.
And the Asia market is much much larger than the U.S. market.
Well, if that is your measure. QNX has been around for 30 years (much longer than Linux) successfully running everything from heart rate monitors to machines on the International Space Station. Every uConnect and OnStar equipped vehicle has QNX in it.
But, RIM is not a phone maker. If they use iOS, Windows or Andriod, what difference will they provide to their competitors? None. Anything they can do with the basic phone, someone who can make it cheaper will copy.

It is an official delay that was actually announced by RIM. So, I am not denying it.
Does that mean you will retract that it has been delayed before? I gave you ample evidence that it was not delayed, but only a bunch of false reports and speculation.
I might not have any significant amount of holds in RIMM, but ever since stumbling over to SA, I've seen a whole bunch of misinformation on the status of the company. Not only from the comments, but from the articles. Perception is reality. If enough people say something is true, then others will start to believe it.
I am not happy with with the delay, but it still doesn't change my view of the company. Neither will it force the place I work at to switch our 800 BB users to another platform, since we've decided to stay with BB for at least another 2 years.
RIM (RIMM) is under pressure from mobile phone companies, including AT&T (T) and Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD), to cut carrier fees. It's a real pain point for RIM, as the fees generate $4.1B annually and account for more than a third of the BlackBerry maker's revenue. Analysts say that figure could drop to $2.8B in FY'14. First, this is the first delay announcement. The comment about the chipset was an estimate of when it would be released.
BB10 is already up and running on the phone (hence the alpha devices and other reports), so there is something else delaying and if they go out on the interview circuit and say that it is due to how they want to have it work with embedded devices, then I am going to believe them more than the misinformation created on SA. Especially when people write moronic articles like this one.

There aren't any BB10 listed yet, because BB10 isn't out yet.

They are already talking about having the carriers on board and saying that the carriers don't want a duopoly between Samsung and Apple.
