They have found a way in 10.2.1 version. I was told by BlackBerry that those in 10.2.1 will be able to upgrade to 10.3.1 when it is available in November without the carrier issue.

  • BlackBerry Demystified 8: Did Volkswagen Just Buy A Critical Part Of BlackBerry's QNX Team? [View article]
"it seems BlackBerry has failed to clarify if Android will directly challenge QNX. Will it be running as a layer on QNX or as the core OS on some vehicles?"

Google is like Apple. Just another supported type run by QNX.

    @MrKnowVeryLittle

I was pointing out that QNX is BlackBerry's way of doing the Internet of Things. Everything that is part of the Internet if things requires it to be able to connect to other things. BlackBerry does this using QNX.

You do know that QNX is the Core of BB10 OS? Right?

    More correction:

They are only outsourcing some hardware to Foxconn, not all hardware.

Did you load some Android app?

I didn't have a Q10 long, but didn't have the issues you state. My Z30 runs rings around anything else. You can keep hoping the next Apple phone will be better, I'm sure the next after the next will be.

Does Instagram and Snapchat have secure mobile to mobile payments?

The hardware doesn't suck...marketing does. Marketing has always been a weakness of BlackBerry.

I am also expecting BlackBerry to leverage QNX embedded devices to connect with BlackBerry built or sold devices as Machine to Machine technology expands. One of the pluses of QNX is how it can use other connected hardware as its own. By having QNX in machines, BlackBerry can use this to sell their BB10 devices.

Will BlackBerry do this, I don't know. But the capability is there. Something that Windows nor Apple can provide.

Automation in manufacturing? Yes, I expect it to grow and automation to creep more into minimum wage jobs as the push to increase minimum wage continues.

Medical devices? Yes. As the government taxes and pushes more money into health care, I see jobs normally handled by trained nurses being provided by low wage assistants using more advanced devices.

Or do you thinking we'll just stop the trend towards automation?

The auto market share might not grow more, but your comment about QNX increasing sales only was about one sector. Obviously the medical device area will be increasing in general. So, there is possible growth in the embedded market and Chen has hinted st the Machine to Machine push.

Are you going to count medical devices, heavy machinery and the other industries that QNX is in?

If you have 10 people walk in to a store and the store owner exclaim that "80% of customers bought something ", is that saying anything if 2000 people walked by the door and didn't go in?

  • Is Apple Using BlackBerry's QNX? Yes [View article]
    Not on all uConnect.
The 8.4 will stay with QNX.

And I bet they are rethinking it after what happened to Ford.

"I assume General Motors (GM) and Chrysler also want to have CarPlay installed, if they would want to sell cars from now on. "

They have OnStar and uConnect, but powered by QNX.
Adding Apple CarPlay to QNX is like adding any other feature. QNX also has Miricast, which would allow BlackBerry10 users (except Z10s) to cast their phone onto the screen in so equipped cars.

And BlackBerry probably won't toot their horn that they came up with it first.

  • BlackBerry: Don't Get Too Excited About The $10 Mark [View article]
Does iOS run the infotainment system? No.
What runs the infotainment system for 60% if new vehicles? QNX
Does QNX support Miricast, Apple CarPlay and Google apps? Yes

If you have one of those 60% of new cars with QNX that has Apple CarPlay support, the CarPlay runs on top of QNX. It is that simple.
