My investments are based on fundamental, bottom up research often but not always in beaten down, under appreciated sectors, industries or geographies. I invest in companies that I believe exhibit excellent value, deep value, and/or attractively priced growth characteristics using a thorough and disciplined research process.
The two investment strategies that I manage are long only, long term, and invest in all cap sizes, in all regions.
As an entrepreneur for 20 years and three time recipient of the Inc 500 award, I hope that my experience running companies gives me an insightful edge in evaluating company managements and future company cash flows.
As an Equity Analyst at a buy-side firm, I focus on researching companies within the industrial sector and materials. In this role, I am also responsible for managing research and portfolio construction for fixed interest and property portfolios.
My previous job role was as a Research Analyst in a multi-manager team at ING Investment Management. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Economics), and have successfully completed the Level III examination of the Chartered Financial Analyst program.
I retired as CEO of an Automotive Parts supplier, and manage an investment portfolio for myself and family. I have a BA in History from Royal Military College of Canada and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. My first career was as a fighter pilot in the RCAF, and, following my MBA I joined McKinsey & Company, Inc. leaving them for Canadian GE. I left CGE as a Vice President in 1984 and founded The Enfield Corporation Limited ("Enfield") which grew from 243 employees in 1984 to over 10,000 in 1989 when Enfield was taken over and I was replaced as CEO. In 1989, I acquired control of Algonquin Mercantile Corporation, renamed Automodular Corporation in the late 1990's when I turned it to focus exclusively on automotive parts sub-assembly. Along the way, Algonquin turned a few ageing drug stores into Pharmx Rexall Drug Stores Ltd., sold to Katz group in 1997 and today a major Canadian drug store chain. I have been a private investor since 1971 both directly and through a private company controlled by myself and members of my family.

Investment philosophy is to first determine the maximum loss, and invest accordingly. Like many value investors, we prefer to invest in stocks with the highest dividend yields, and highest EPS growth potentials. Telecommunication and energy stocks in emerging markets are among the favorites.
Seeking Alpha offers a great opportunity to become a part of a strong finance network. Based on extensive quantitative analysis, in any market, going short is risky. Statistical analysis shows that technical indicators work only if they are strong enough to convince the majority of the investors. Do not buy a stock at the top, do not sell a stock at the dip.

In our blog "BubbleBustInvesting.com", we write about individual stocks as well as macroeconomics events. We believe that most of the returns in financial markets can be made during the blow and bust of financial bubbles, provided that investors learn how to spot them ahead of the crowd and place their bets accordingly.
