  • USPTO Checkmates Google Over Vringo Patents  [View article]
Exactly. Most vringo fans forget that a jury trial is a black box in which anything can happen, thus also unjust rulings or delay after delay. I hold vringo shares, but I'm not blind. This thing could easily fall 50% because of some 'black-swan ruling'. Judge JJ indeed holds too much power, who forces him to speed up his decision making?

  • Vringo: PTO Ruling Significantly Undervalued  [View article]
Wall Street is not missing anything. If one small cap has been heavily promoted, its Vringo. Vringo is basically a binary win or lose all coin flip, despite all the propaganda from self proclaimed experts. A jury trial is a black box. Trial can drag on for years and years. Who forces JJ to make a ruling now? Nobody. So it could be next month, or 2014, or 2015.....

No way Google is to buy Vringo.
Which defendant ever bought a patent stock?

    answer = none

Very unlikely, Google has explicitly announced crushing every patent troll. A settlement only rewards patent trolls. Thus Google is not going to reward anything.

Google is going to appeal anything, block anything, use every escape possible, influence media and judge, you name it. And guess what, they are pretty succesful in it.

Trial can drag on for years.....

  • Patent Juggernaut: The Damages Endgame  [View article]

Last 2 days surely a hedge fund was active shorting the stock.
But how long will this continue? Any ideas?
As far I can tell, last 2 days showed 2,5m daily volume while average is 500k. So total 4m shares were more traded than normally.
    Aren't they done yet?

i think it was a combination of happenings.

First the broader stockmarket shed big time. Second a 2 months delay ofcourse ignites a few sellings. And third, the hedge fund was locking in their profits. And with a big slide like 20%, probably stop-losses were hit too.

  • Peter Schiff Has It Totally Backwards - Gold Is Not Going 'To The Moon'  [View article]
Peter Schiff his business model is making a lot of contrarian and wild predictions.
Just by ‘laws’ of statistics, a few will come true. If so, make a lot of noise about it.
And his wrong predictions? People have a very short-term memory, so those will quickly fade away in the memory-hole.

There a lot more abysmal financial predictions.

But hey what do you expect in the ‘prediction industry’?
Earning money by just making wild predictions on a frequent basis is quite the trick.

  • Vringo: A Patent Play Stock Ready To Explode Again  [View article]
A very mediocre deal to put it mildly.

Where is the cash? Suppose they get 500m, and that is a very positive outcome, 5% of that is 25m. That is just 1/10th of the current market capitalization.
Seems the biggest part of the settlement deal is directly dependent on uncertain outcome of the trail against Google.
This molds Vringo even more in a one-trick-pony stock. There is hardly a significant jump in stockprice pre-market, so mr market ain’t that happy either.

why not craft a portfolio of patent stocks?
that's what i do, i own vrng, wddd, mara and thinking of adding blue calypso.

bye the way, biggest threat indeed is congressional action, and thats why the defendants have one common strategy: delay delay delay

  • Why Microsoft's Investment History Suggests Major Upside For Vringo Shareholders  [View article]
On the other hand, Vringo got so many bullish articles on this site, and just a few bearish ones.
This stock had been hyped a lot. I’m long though, just somewhat annoyed by the length of the trials…

  • Vringo's Billion-Dollar Win At Hand  [View article]
There are bullish essays almost on a daily basis about Vringo but they hardly mention the downside risks:

    - Appeals by the defendants, no matter what. Result is that these trials keep dragging on without a clear end in sight.
    - Illogic verdicts. Vringo may be right, but that does not mean necessarily that the jury or judge thinks the same way.
    - (Calculation) errors, like with the past damages. Judges, jury, lawyers, etc are people and people make mistakes.
    - The nuclear bomb in the ‘patent troll’ sector, a new supreme law crafted by the government that would severely impact the chances of ‘patent trolls’. This would crush all patent stocks, like solar stocks got crushed in 2009.

I’m long Vringo, because I still think it’s a valuebet but it ain’t all that rosy….

  • Three Free Lottery Tickets Attached To Stellar Balance Sheets  [View article]
Interesting thesis. One question though: what is your take on cash burn?
Because it might be the case that a balance sheet shows a decent cash position, but the cash flow statement shows the company is bleeding cash.
If that is the case, share dilution is around the corner.
