  • Expecting Apple to Pull Back To $450 Before Going To $700 And Beyond [View article]
In total agreement with Taojones and SkepticL :
    1) When will "analysts" and commentators finally "get it" that "Android" is NOT a device?? It's an inferior mobile OS "shell" freely used in various non-compatable "skins" by almost all of the trailing competitor's devices. And it has real problems that I won't take up space here with. I.E., lets stop comparing Apples to Oranges.
    2) The Author's use of "scalable" meant nothing to me either - and then he continues: "In terms of scalability into the future, I think Amazon (AMZN) and Google (GOOG) have better strategies. (REALLY?-ed) I also think Apple is vulnerable to startups seeking to create a highly integrated, controlled platform -- but one that is directed towards a more specific customer or industry." The author doesn't realize that he is describing AAPL to a "T". Add him to the list of those who just don't "get it".

@numberguy - GOOG already has a very dangerous war to cope with from AAPL. It will be a serious problem for Google going forward, in addition to their other woes. And it's personal, not just business, AAPL has a startup organization and mentality as well as funding to use against its enemy. It may seem petty, but it's not - AAPL remembers the Judas in their boardroom, and surviving lieutenants keep the fighting spirit alive and well. I'm not a radical - I just think this is a reality.

  • The WSJ's report that Google (GOOG) circumvented the privacy settings of people who used Apple's (AAPL) Safari browser has caught the attention of Congress, with three House members on Friday calling on the FTC to probe Google, and the Senate Commerce Committee's Jay Rockefeller planning to look into the firm's behavior.  [View news story]
GOOG circumvents privacy via every copy of Android they give away to the various market contenders; which products contain a kernel of CLOSED Google-centric information gathering and advertising algorithms subsequently spread among the general public. Think not? Think again.

  • Apple: A China Syndrome That Could Explode [View article]
What generally crosses my mind while following Analysis and commentary about the evolving AAPL presence in China:

    1) Who/what Players and powers that be, stand to gain the most by promoting and supporting (behind the scenes) issues and "news" (of substance or otherwise) to obstruct AAPL's marketing progress in China?

    2) AAPL is one of the best things that ever happened to China, in terms of creating tons or decent (to them) employment opportunities, helping to improve existing Labor conditions, providing trickle-down effects that infuse their economy in many positive ways, etc.

  • A company representing Proview's creditors is planning to sue Apple (AAPL) for $2B in the U.S. over the iPad trademark. At a Beijing press conference, Li Su - chairman of the creditor group - says it's in the process of choosing representation from among 3 U.S. law firms.  [View news story]
A better conspiracy theory would be to investigate what powers might be behind and backing this supposedly Chinese-based attack on AAPL.

  • Apple (AAPL) may not be as undervalued as its PE suggests, thanks to an accounting-rule change allowing the company to book revenue from sales of bundled products more quickly than it used to. "It would appear that the market continues to consider a significant component of Apple’s revenues and gross profit to be presently unearned and not deserving of a normal market multiple," says Charles Mulford.  [View news story]
Isn't this some really old news being regurgitated as propaganda? Maybe I'm mistaken, but seems to me that the story at the time was that AAPL had abandoned a more conservative accounting method, adopting the more commonly-used (e.g., by its competitors) method described for conformity in the marketplace.

  • What You Could Buy For 1 (Very Overvalued) Apple [View article]
I think Strozzi made the most succinct reply, imho. I'm surprised that a lot of responses seem to think this authors presentation is serious. The farther through I read, the more I realized that this is sort of the "Saturday Night Live" of anti-Apple propaganda. This article is a parody of the usual heap of misinformation designed to get some quick bucks into a shorter's pockets, or shore up various interests in Google, Samsung, Amazon and the like. I really believe the author is trying to demonstrate how pathetic most of that propaganda is.
    (sure, I'm an Apple fanboy - who wouldn't be . . . . . ;-)

  • The latest buzz about the iPad 3 or a potential dividend has pushed Apple (AAPL) shares up 24.1% YTD. Jeff Hirsch notes a "fairly repeatable and predictable product announcement and update cycle" in AAPL through the years, so if AAPL's surge succumbs to profit taking, its enormous market cap would burden the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 via its outsized weighting in SPY and QQQ.  [View news story]
So the reason for AAPL's growth is actually "the latest buzz" about what might (teeter-totter, crash & burn) happen latter with the IPad3 or a dividend program. or Not. It's just the market trying to catch up to the fundamentals - and it has a way to go.

  • Did Best Buy (BBY +2.7%) just leak details of Apple's (AAPL) iTV, and will it get into trouble for doing so? In a customer survey, BBY offers details of an "Apple HDTV" to be sold at stores for $1499: 42-inch 1080p LED flat panel display; can download and use App Store apps; supports iCloud for storing videos and music; can stream content from popular sites such as Netflix, YouTube, Flickr. (earlier)  [View news story]
Yes, let's be careful how we use the term "low-end". An Apple TV will be about a lot more than screen inches. And it may be that AAPL doesn't really care how many tv's they sell, or at what margin - why should they - it's just a "hobby", remember??

  • Amazon: Determined To Continue Its Assault On Apple [View article]
Ahh - the plot thickens - hindsight will be the telling sight, and it will take a while. I think there is just a little too much desperation in the reactions to the iPad. It will be very interesting to watch things play out!

  • Amazon: Determined To Continue Its Assault On Apple [View article]
For an Author's Reply, this is a pretty weak response. I wondered if you really understood the comment that finally inspired a response from you. You seem to be in "denial" about much that has been said in these postings, and I have to wonder which of the partys is really "too emotionally attached"?

  • Apple: Is Tim Cook Insane (Or Just One Heck Of A Guy)? [View article]
The Product-1st philosophy and fearless innovation are really the main factors that keep the bottom line high. Tim Cook is where he is because that is where Jobs wanted him. Ditto with Jobs' other close lieutenants, and the responsibilities and commitments jointly undertaken in "roundtable" fashion. (IMHO)

  • Apple Already Puts Its Cash To Work [View article]
Thank you for putting this issue in a proper and more understandable context. As for putting their "cash" into the stock market per se: These companies realize how unstable and manipulated the Market in general has become. Think bubbles; think High Frequency trading; Think Flash-Crash. Not to mention irrational media-driven volatility, and volatility that could be created merely by cashing in (when talking about this much money) any individual holdings when they needed the cash for whatever.

  • Forget The Value Angle, Apple Is A Pure Growth Play [View article]
This is an intelligent, common-sense observation from a "lay" person, as most of us are. The author dismisses it with yet another "I'm not sure that . . ." remark. The truth is, he's not too sure about anything as far as how it affects AAPL. He asserts in the title of his piece that AAPL is "pure growth" stuff with no "value angle". As in his "Part 1", from there on his presentation is full of suppositions and unwarranted assumptions of facts not in existence, applied to "rules" formulated in another time and place. Other comments, collectively, have sufficiently debunked the notions he has presented, most of which he hardly seems to believe himself.
