why should stocks continue to follow bonds and corporate spreads? companies have delevered and in some cases bought back their debt with new stock issuance. not clear to me why bonds matter to stocks as much as they in the past when many companies were levered to their eyeballs and basically depended on cheap CP for working capital.
Five Reasons the Market Could Crash This Fall [View article]
what an angry guy....basically his thesis is the mkt needs to go down because it's gone up a lot from the bottom. If you used that logic last year you would have been long at 1100, 1000, 900 etc. the SPX is only up about 10% on the year and still down a ton over the last 2 years.

actually RCB's, or REX's, do help Apple in that they dampen volatility in the stock as these are akin to investors buying a zero cpn bond and simultaneously selling a put on the stock. a less volatile stock makes raising capital for any company easier as long term investors are more likely to buy into secondaries as opposed to fast money flippers.
The Trouble with Latvia: What It Is and Why It Matters [View article]
latvia's gdp is 1/10 that of new jersey...really, is this situation worth this much ink or discussion? latvia isn't even a country by any standard. they'll soon be reabsorbed by USSR 2.0.

hmmmm. you forgot to mention how bullish it is that SPG will now pay at least 90 percent of their dividends in stock. so holders of equity in a business that is slowing down get to own a larger piece of the business and be diluted in the process. real bullish...

what if china decides that they don't care if their currency strengthens against the dollar? their economy may be far less export dependent than you may think. the internal demand in the country could be enough to mitigate any negative impact of lower exports. sure they take a hit on their dollar investments but that's going to happen anyway as our government spends itself into "bolivia" (apologies mike tyson).
Buffett's S&P 500 Puts: Big Blunder? [View article]
he already lost on these positions. like you said, he sold insurance on the s&p and the s&p went down, he lost, period, and of course he has to post more collateral, which in his business is a disaster. yes, in 20 yrs. the mkt may go up, but what's the opportunity cost of the increase in collateral he needs to post? especially now when no one can borrow at low rates including berkshire.
