what an angry guy....basically his thesis is the mkt needs to go down because it's gone up a lot from the bottom. If you used that logic last year you would have been long at 1100, 1000, 900 etc. the SPX is only up about 10% on the year and still down a ton over the last 2 years.

it's less than pointless to fundamentally analyze brokers right now. all of these companies make money because they can borrow money and borrowing money has become a huge issue in that it's not cheap anymore. goldman is a sell as are all other brokers

the takeaway here that is important is that Merrill is expensive using both measures and looks good as a short to me. I wouldn't buy any financial stocks given what happened to Carlyle and Thornburg
Markos, MBI has a 2.28 P/E, maybe you should buy that too....my point is, if you're investing in investment banks, you need to discuss the book value of the firm, which you left out of your analysis. How can you be sure the book value of any investment bank will hold up?
