Apple and Intel Fail to Impress: Waiting for the Fed's Next Move [View article]
Apple's MacWorld has traditionally been a buy the rumor, sell the news event in terms of stock price. The upcoming earnings on Tuesday will probably paint a more rosy picture than even the most bullish analysts were giving AAPL credit for. 2.6M+ iPhones alone in Q4 right? That's nearly double the Q3 number. Leopard seems to be a success, the Nano, the Touch... everything continues to fire on all cylinders for Apple.
I've already locked in profits of almost 80%, so that feels good. It is a relatively small position of my overall portfolio, since I considered it speculation and that the position could easily go either way. Glad I held on. =)
Netflix Could Be Hit By Postal Cost Hike [View article]
I don't see how you can say NFLX is a sell and BBI is a buy when the concern is that the postal service is targeting rental by mail providers. That would mean BBI would be negatively affected along with NFLX.
And if NFLX can just change their mailer and avoid the fee, then they change the mailer and still whoop on BBI in terms of subscribers.
Sears Holdings' Lewis: Worst CEO of 2007? [View article]
RSTO will probably be just like the men's Structure clothing line that Sear's somehow consumed. Structure used to be a freestanding retail clothing operation that sold fashionable 20- and 30-something men's clothing. The store became Express Men's, but the clothing line itself has ended up at Sears. Now the clothes are "fashionable" for Sears/Sears Essentials clientele.
RSTO will probably be the same. The name will bring familiarity, and the cheaper cost will bring curiosity, but the quality will not be what people who liked the original product remember.
Walmart.com Is Blowing Away Competition [View article]
While this is interesting you've got to consider things like Wal-Mart being an all-in-one retailer that sells everything vs. Best Buy that sells electronics or Home Depot that sells construction/home improvement. How relevant these percentages are depends on what people are looking for when they hit each store.
As a consumer, if I'm looking for some clothes, a video game, and some cereal and I want it all at once, I'm going to look at Wal-Mart.
But if I want a large selection of flat screen TVs, even though Wally World sells them, Best Buy and Circuit City are still going to be my first stops.
I'm assuming the percentages above are unique visits to a retailers website without consideration for what the consumer is after.
Not to be negative and morbid, but Gdrive should be viewed differently than attached external drive because it offers disaster recovery benefits. Many times users assume that backing up their hard drives makes them safe, but backing them up to an external drive that sits next to their PCs doesn't protect them from a disaster like a fire or flood. Gdrive will to store all your documents off-site, which means should a disaster happen (knock on wood for it not to), you can still operate as you'd like. Additionally you don't have to carry around a thumb drive or anything else if you're off-site at a conference or vacation and need to pull something up. Authenticate and you can access it. It's a mobile world.
Wachovia Insiders Are Placing Big Bets on Company [View article]
Did Peter Lynch also have the statement about trying to catch a falling knife? Only joking... kinda.
It's always good to see insiders buying, especially when no one whatsoever seems to have any idea about how bad the damage really is. But until the downtrend line is broken I think I'm done playing with bank stocks for a while. I'll just sit back and (hopefully!) collect my 6%+ yields.
10 Reasons Why Apple Should Acquire AMD [View article]
And reason #10, as some others have pointed out, is ridiculous. Protectionism is understandable, but c'mon! It's not like AMD is really any more a foreign-controlled company now that Citigroup. If Warren Buffet can buy 15% of PetroChina, why can't a Middle Eastern investment banker buy a chunk of AMD?
