  • Apple (AAPL -2.6%) is now seeing a decent post-earnings selloff. Aside from the margin issues, the Street is likely concerned about Apple's relatively soft European and Asia-Pac performance. Europe and China's macro problems are one reason, but in light of Samsung's Q3 smartphone sales and recent market share data (I, II), Android competition could be another. U.S. and Japanese sales grew much faster thanks to iPhone share gains - could the Japanese gains finally lead to a deal with NTT DoCoMo? (more) (transcript[View news story]
I think SA authors should refrain from including intraday stock prices / swings and pass judgement on why its happening.

  • Investors seem nervous ahead of Apple's (AAPL -1%) FQ4 report. Not only is Apple trading lower, so are component suppliers Cirrus Logic (CRUS -4%), OmniVision (OVTI -2.2%), Broadcom (BRCM -2%), and SanDisk (SNDK -1.7%). Expectations definitely aren't where they were on Sep. 21, the day the iPhone 5 launched and Apple made its all-time high. (earlier[View news story]

IV would matter if ur trading the weekly which would expire in 1-2 days. Since IVs will drop significantly after earnings ie Friday, the calls and puts will be worth much less.

  • The iPad Mini has become a lightning-rod for debate. Mashable's Peter Pachal isn't crazy about the concept, noting Steve Jobs' complaints about 7" tablets and declaring it "would represent a cheapening of what Apple (AAPL) stands for." VC Fred Wilson is more positive on the 7" form factor, particularly for reading purposes. Developer Joel Bernstein offers a detailed list explaining why a 7.8" iPad could "maintain a perfectly usable UI."  [View news story]
A cheaper iPad with the old 1024x768 resolution would be awesome for the consumers. No rewrites required.

  • Apple (AAPL) is reportedly planning to roll out a smaller, cheaper iPad by the end of the year, with a screen that's 7-8 inches diagonally vs. the current 9.7 inch version. Apparently Apple's at least a little bit worried about the Nexus 7 (GOOG) and Surface (MSFT).  [View news story]
This would be a great move by apple specially if they resolution of the smaller iPad would be same as the iPad1 or iPad2 (1024x768). This would allow apps to run without rewriting them for a different screen resolution.

  • Is Apple Running Out Of Ideas? [View article]
the problem with apple's stock not getting to $900 is not that they are releasing products with significant upgrades, but the manipulation by the big stock owners and their sky high expectations of what new product apple is gonna launch every time they have a conference.

  • Gene Munster thinks Qualcomm (QCOM -6.6%) and TSMC's (TSM) 28nm chip supply issues suggest Apple (AAPL -3.4%) will introduce its next iPhone in October, given the device is expected to feature a 28nm Qualcomm modem and A6 chip. Qualcomm's chip guidance could be contributing to today's selloff in Apple (along with Canaccord's note and Verizon's iPhone data), though its worth noting the iPhone 4S and new iPad don't use 28nm parts.  [View news story]
