The CBOE Volatility Index today dropped below 12 for the first time since 2007 and against a long-term average of 20.4. Contrary to what contrarians believe, writes Mark Hulbert, low VIX levels are not necessarily bearish. Thinking about VIX as what it is - a measure of expected volatility - rather than as a "fear gauge" might help do away with this misperception. VXX -2.2%.

GE (GE) has reportedly attracted plenty of interest for its 25.3%, $1.5B holding in Thailand's Bank of Ayudhya, with Japan's Mitsubishi UFJ Financial (MTU) among those making first-round bids. GE acquired a 33% stake in Bank of Ayudhya in 2007 for $626M, but sold 7.6% in September for for $466M, indicating the conglomerate will make a healthy return on the investment.

A lawsuit filed against Monster Beverage (MNST -13.2%) over the death of a teenager alleges (court filing .pdf) the two cans of the company's energy drink consumed by the girl contained 480 milligrams of caffeine. Though it's the equivalent of more than a dozen Coke soft drinks (caffeine database), short-term trading opportunists note it's only 60 milligrams more than one Starbucks Venti coffee. In a statement, Monster Beverage maintains it has safely sold over 8B energy drinks worldwide.

wall st knows election time is a market boomer, they are not giving up their beliefs for only a 6 month market rally. They would rather vote a Republican who will keep the rich richer so they can invest over the yrs and keep capital business strong for the markets.

Treasury prices plunge (yields fly higher) following the big rally in Europe and the NFP report. The future is unknown, but a buyer of the 10-year Treasury at 1.5% requires an unceasing stream of bad news to make money, while being open to getting fried on just the slightest bit of economic sunlight. SPY pulls far ahead of TLT in YTD returns.

The aftermath of the USPS defaulting on a $5.5B payment to the U.S. Treasury is relatively muted as jittery politicians prefer to stay out of any action that could cut jobs in their district. Things could get rather interesting in October though, when the USPS could actually run out of money to fund ongoing operations and force companies to improvise. On watch: FedEx (FDX -1.0%), UPS (UPS -0.5%).

That's exactly what should happen. Prices move up to cover the losses in volume. This move to internet destroyed this business a long time ago. And as usual the Fed waits until after 1,000 complaints by management before it even becomes breaking news!

This needs to be revised and taken over by FedEx and UPS. This is way too much debt for it to be a big conversation now. Politicians don't care and neither does Wall Street. It's just another U.S. bill that goes unpaid as the so-called fiscal cliff (which is also a bunch of b.s.) gets near.
