  • Actually It Is All About Total Return...Totally! [View article]
I have a question: what about an average dividend yield of around 4.5 to 5.5 percent? Things like FCX, BP, DO, etc.

I have a modest IRA and I hold mainly higher-dividend stocks that I feel are fairly safe but undergoing short-term volatility.

I like the safety of holding companies I am fairly confident in and honestly, I don't like the wild ride of speculative issues.

  • Arch Coal Can't Catch A Break [View article]
I've made a bit of money on BTU and ACI, taken both gains and losses, trying to figure out the coal market. Ugh.

Best of luck, I'm out of coal.

  • Bear Of The Day: Abercrombie & Fitch [View article]
It's probably approaching fair value at the moment based off some really quick DCF calculations. I got a value of around $35.00.

At any rate, I would wait until $25.00ish or when people start talking about bankruptcy and you see more downgrades.

Bought FCX at just under $30.00. Hoping that, over the next 2-3 years, this one will double.

  • J.C. Penney: A Strong Buy For Contrarian Investors With Outsized Return Potential [View article]
The one thing that makes me want to speculate on this is that JCP doesn't need to actually make a dime. All they need to do is lose less money.

Understandably, this is an oversimplification but my point is that the bar is low. So low that if I were to sit on it, I'd probably be eye level with my kid.

I'm thinking a small, small position if price goes below $6

  • 2 Reasons Hewlett-Packard's Recent Run Is A False Dawn [View article]
Bought HPQ at $12ish sold at $17.00

I like HPQ, but I wouldn't buy in at these levels, I just don't feel safe. At $12.00, I saw them as a discount to their liquidation value, at $22.00, you are buying a turn-around story with declining revenues...while HPQ will probably do well, I just feel like they are a bit too expensive for what oyu're getting.

    No position in HPQ

  • Buy Freeport-McMoRan Now And Pray For A Repeat [View article]
Arlight, thanks for the advice. I'm probabling going to do that in the near-future.

I really do believe that the company is undervalued now, but I feel like it has more downside to do simply because whenever I think it's a good time to buy...the market has one more leg down.

  • Buy Freeport-McMoRan Now And Pray For A Repeat [View article]
I'm interested in FCX as a company. They're at about fair value at current materials prices but...I'd like to see them sub-25 and I would feel safe buying them.

The entire world is slowing down right now, or, well, at least it seems like they're plodding along.

Looking down the road, many years, what about Europe when they recover? What about Southeast Asia? I'm 26 so I have a long view and can afford to wait. Any thoughts given this timeline?
