  • Arch Coal Attractive At Current Prices [View article]
I agree that the bottom is near for both coal and ACI. If ACI does go below $11, I'll consider it an opportunity to average into more shares. I simply can't comprehend the needs being met for the very many nations that are growing at a far faster clip than the US without coal and ACI is one of my favorite coal companies.

Very good article, thank you. I too have been wanting to add to my ACI holdings and have been waiting for my $12 buy target for quite a while. Depending on what happens in the coming days, I'll probably buy at any point below $12 since that represents a new 52-week low, which should provide some support in that range... key word "should". I find it odd (though not uncommon) that Zacks has a "sell" rating on ACI now that its near the 52-week low. That undoubtedly has to do with the challenges mentioned above, but is also counter to the basic investing premise of "buy low, sell high"... unless of course, they're forecasting new lows that are much lower than current lows. That just seems unlikely being that the world is and will continue to be extremely dependent upon coal despite the issues.

Thank you. This controversy makes one thing crystal clear - KERX & AEZS are both stocks to stay far a way from for the time being.

  • Forget May; March Is A Good Time To Sell And Go Away [View article]
Another great article. I totally agree that a significant correction is long overdue and gravity will have its way soon. That's one of the reasons I'm only buying particularly cheap and/or speculative stocks right now and slowing the pace of my buying.

I agree... I'm just to willing to buy anymore... especially so soon after the prodigy has passed. I see it as sort of like going to see the Rolling Stones in concert today instead of 30 years ago. lol

Another good tip, thanks. I'll definitely be looking into VOG as a possible buy. My other small/micro O&Gs are: KOG, GTE, AXAS, SSN (listed in ascending order of what I consider speculative).

For what my two pence is worth as a self-directed investor, of the half dozen or so purely speculative biotechs I own, I'm most confident in AIS and think the returns from AIS will come the soonest.

  • Alcatel-Lucent: Recent Bernstein Downgrade Tells You To Buy [View article]
True, ratings don't necessarily have much to do with the intelligence or expertise of the individuals. I've occasionally had a mental lapse, but try to remind myself that analysts' opinions are influenced by the need to uphold their firms' reputations. Since that can require them to err on the extreme safe side, I don't expect most analysts to go out on a limb with a company that hasn't done particularly well lately. That's why I often interpret a "hold" rating as a signal to start my own due diligence for a potential buy since a "hold" rating can indicate that a stock is bottoming. Unfortunately, it seems that many investors interpret "hold" as "sell".

  • Alcatel-Lucent: Recent Bernstein Downgrade Tells You To Buy [View article]
Very good article, thank you. I couldn't agree more with the premise... the ONLY loser in my portfolio is a stock that I bought based on analysts' conviction "strong buy", despite my normal tendency to give only a tiny bit of weight to analysts' ratings. Not only is that stock my only loser, but it's a huge loser... down 45%, while several stocks I picked myself are up 50% or more in the same time period. Long ALU.
