  • "We see three reasons for optimism in Q3 and beyond," says Goldman Sachs in a positive note about banks. The market has failed to price into shares how just a small gain in the housing market can deliver a big gain to banks' bottom lines. Top ideas: C, WFC, RF, EVER. The XLF is the top-performing sector ETF YTD. Something is priced in. [View news story]

  • Friday's gloomy reports show the world economic outlook to be in dire straits. As U.S. employment growth slows sharply, Chinese factory output barely growing and European manufacturing falling deeper into malaise, the calls are going to grow for another round of stimulus from the Fed. Whether or not it wants to step in to catch that falling knife, however, is anyone's guess.  [View news story]
GS, MS, Citi are all declaring QE is a sure deal. We, obviously, will heed their warning and do what they think is going to happen.

    Not.

  • More on Baidu's Q1: Q2 guidance implies only 56%-60% Y/Y revenue growth, down from Q1's 75% and Q4's 82.5% Traffic acquisition costs fell 10 bps Q/Q to 7.8%. Active ad customers rose 3.2% Q/Q and 17.2% Y/Y to 321K. Revenue per customer, while up 49.4% Y/Y, fell 7.6% Q/Q to $2,112. Though seasonality had an impact, this is a troubling stat given Q/Q growth was flat in Q1 '11. R&D expenses rose 85.2% Y/Y, SG&A expenses 43.9%. BIDU -7.4% AH. (PR)  [View news story]

  • This could be one of the best earnings seasons ever, but as Europe staggers, U.S. markets appear destined to follow them down. Just how precarious is it? "Basically, we're mountain climbers," says S&P Capital's Sam Stovall. "The U.S. is in front, China is behind and Europe is tethered to us. But if Europe should fall, it could drag the rest of us down the mountain as well."  [View news story]

  • Time To Buy VIX ETNs? [View article]
I have a question about ETNs.

Let's say that the bank that issues them get downgraded by a rating agency, how would this move impact the price of the ETN?

  • Stocks Worth Buying Prior To Earnings: Week 2 [View article]
After seeing GOOG, JPM, WFC dropped 3%+ after beating earnings forecasts, I am beginning to suspect people are getting rid of stocks this earnings season.

With AAPL and QCOM selllings off as well, I am really beginning to worry for the market. All of these stocks are top stocks in many hedge funds.

Next week Italian bank ratings are being reviewed by Moody, so there might be some pain ahead.

  • Google's (GOOG) stock split doesn't go down well with corporate governance experts, but that kind of power looks more attractive in light of Facebook’s Instagram acquisition: “In full control, CEO Mark Zuckerberg appears to have conceived and pulled the trigger on the $1B deal over a weekend. [Larry Page and Sergey Brin] would like to maintain their ability to make similar moves.”  [View news story]

  • Goldman says it's become more cautious on the economy over the near-term, noting that even a "modest" slowdown feels "more dangerous than normal." The firm cites some key factors: An end to GDP growth acceleration, earlier data strength that may have been weather-related and not based on any sustainable trend, and fiscal policy that's consolidating and monetary policy appears to have run its course.  [View news story]

  • Stocks Worth Buying Prior To Earnings In Q2 (Part One) [View article]
I think JPM could be a good play.
They would not announce a large stock buy back after the stress test if this quarter were weak.

    AAPL - definitely.

Probably because Monday/Tuesday the shares might go down a bit because of the news from Europe. If the news are favourable, he might buy more.
