The Mother of All Short Squeezes
Perhaps I am naive, but if I were to advertise something for sale on E-bay that I had never owned and could not, would not deliver after someone paid me, that would seem to me to be fraud. I understand that there are some short sales out there that are something like 200-300 days overdue for settlement. Several posters on SA have expressed there fervent belief that short sellers somehow benefit the market. So called "naked" shorting strikes me as nothing but pure theft!!~!

How Bernanke Stunned Congress with the Truth
Methinks the reason there was so much silence in Pelosi's conference room was that many of the pols in attendance have a small glimmer of their culpability for this mess. Both parties have taken campaign contributions from Fannie and Freddie and Dodd and Frank reportedly have received "sweetheart" home loans from CountryWide. The very people at that meeting have dug the financial and moral cesspool we now have.

YogiG and Jack Gordon: I suggest there is a much more likelihood of an "accidental" war with Neville Chamberlain ,AKA OBAMA! in the White House. Be careful what you pray for.

Chris B: What makes you think that Obama! means peace? At least you implied that with your comment on McCain. I submit that if Obama! is elected, he will stumble into war just as Neville Chamberlin did. These are very dangerous times ad several dictators are waiting to test the U.S.

      SEC to Address Naked Shorts
I am a political conservative, but when Glass-Steagal was repealed, I questioned the wisdom of this. I believe naked shorting is a CRIMINAL offense and should be a felony with jail time.Brokers should also be required to get a notarized document from a stock owner before being allowed to "loan" a stock. Lacking this, brokers should do jail time as well.

      The U.S. on the Precipice
Many of the responders to this post seem eager to blame all of this mess on "King George". You need to go back and read it again. Note carefully the names Raines, Gorelick, Dodd, and Frank. These folks are no fans of "King George" but will be tight with Obama! and his friends. Both political parties are deeply morally compromised. I have sadly concluded that Bush 41 and Bush 43 are both RINOS.

      Let Lehman Fail
An excellent article. Responders on this thread are clamoring for a political remedy but, no matter who is elected in november, the game will go on. Senator Dodd, Representative Frank and others are just as compromised by low interest "loans" as Hank Paulson. BOTH parties have been bought and paid for by lobbyists. We need a constitutional amendment to make it a criminal act for any former member of Congress to lobby. A second constitutional amendment to limit terms in the Senate and House to 12 years.

      The Next Bubble
A very interesting article. Like "long on oil", I, too, am long all forms of energy, but particularly hydrocarbons. I don't see any realistic substitutes for oil(gasoline-diesel) as transportation fuel unless it is NatGas or ethanol, from different sources than corn. Jason's comments are troubling because if he is correct, and I believe he is, it may drive retail investors from the market place because they feel the market is rigged. Thanks to Greenspan/Bernanke, the world has been flooded with money with potentially disastrous results. I am receiving 12-15% dividends from companies whose value has been driven to the ground by these short sellers. I think it should be a CRIMINAL offense for a brokerage to loan stock for a short sale without the legal; owner's permission. I think it should also be a CRIMINAL offense to do a "naked" short sale. The latter is nothing but pure fraud!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I am downloading a hard copy for future reference. Given all the shameful corruption and dishonesty on Wall Street, OBAMA! may very well be it. I think it was Louis XIV who said: "Apres Moi, Le Deluge"

I'm with Georealist. The Central Banks and their commercial acolytes remind me of the Wizard behind the curtain in OZ. I do believe that there is a disconnect between the "paper" precious metals market and the physical market. I have no idea when this situation could blow up but I believe it will and when it comes, it will be sudden and devastating
