Energy Independence: It's About Demand, Not Supply
Given the putative belief that we are now oversupplied with natural gas, I would strongly urge our clueless Congress to pass a law allowing significant tax deductions for truck stops to install natural gas facilities. We should also offer trucking companies and truck manufacturers tax incentives to convert existing and future trucks to NG. Busses should also be included. Large vehicles, such as above, are easier to convert to NG. This should greatly aid the hurting transportation industry and lower our dependence for oil imports. I would also suggest "energy security" rather than "energy independence" since the latter is impossible. We could also levy an import tax on oil from other than Canada and Mexico. That should get the attention of Chavez-Citgo. Chavez makes less money when he ships to China. The tax should be strictly assigned to finance research on alternative transportation fuels.

      Energy Less Liked Than Financials
Oil is getting evermore difficult to extract and evermore costly. Petroleum based transportation fuels do not seem to have any real substitute in the near to medium term. "alternative"... fuels of all kinds have technical and infrastructure problems that are severe. I am sitting on all my energy stocks. Investors and speculators remind me of a flock of chickens, running to and fro when they think they see a fox or possum.

      Oil: The Inconvenient Truth
In 1977 a book entitled: "The Coming Ice Age" was published. It is alleged that the author is now one of the gurus of the global warming movement. I confess to having very wary feelings about this issue. Too many advocates of global warming strike me as being utopians. Religious wars have killed millions, but utopians have killed even more. I don't trust people who offer to perfect mankind.

      10-Year TIPS: An Investor's Benchmark
I have to support bearfund on this issue. Until earlier this year, I had a substantial proportion of our savings in TIPS, When I look at the actual cost of living, I see costs rising much faster and farther than the official government statistics. Using theoretical improvements in certain manufactured goods, as BLS does, suggests that the cost of living is being manipulated. I no longer trust the government. The government is in the service of the Wall Street Thugs

The Election's Impact on the Market
Gee, I thought Robert Novak got Valerie Plame's name from a liberal functionary at the State Department Who was no fan of George Bush or Dick Cheney. Regarding ANWAR, the Republican- controlled congress passed an ANWAR drilling resolution in 1996. Nancy Pelosi voted against it and Bill Clinton vetoed it , saying it would be ten years before any oil or gas could be produced. It is now TWELVE years later and look where we are. Regarding the poster's who have argued that oil is an international market, true as far as it goes. However, oil exporting countries are now limiting exports and retaining it for their own development. We can and should do that too. We have very large oil assets that are untapped and we need to keep these for ourselves. Yes, cheap oil is gone forever and any new oil is going to be more costly to find and produce. Given the amount of lead time required to develop "alternative"... replacements for transportation fuel, we need to move immediately but, in the meantime, we need conventional transportation fuel lest our economy die and we sink into anarchy. Finally, Sarah Palin's resume' includes far more experience in administration than the other three men in the election combined! Go Sarah!!!

How Much Longer Can Money Managers Hang in Behind Energy?
I am amused by John Podesta's pathetic attempt to bad mouth Sarah Palin's alleged lack of administrative experience. She served as a city commissioner and mayor of a small town. She has served as governor of Alaska for 20 months. Compare that with the "administrative&q... experience of OBAMA! and Biden. They have never met a payroll or set up a budget. I submit that the "experience" of OBAMA! and Biden wouldn't qualify them to operate a pay toilet.

      Obama's Green Promise
I am a conservative environmentalist. We have composted our household garbage for more than 30 years. I rode a bicycle to and from work for the last 19 years before retirement. We installed a solar water heater 6 years ago and it is saving us about $50 a month in electricity. I am studying a solar-electric installation for our house.I understand that Senator John Kerry has an $8,600 dollar hand made bike but I haven't seen him ride it to work.My paranoid suspicion is that the radical enviros wanted an energy crisis which is why they have opposed every rational attempt to remedy the situation. This is going to backfire on them badly. Obama has called Canadian tar sands crude "dirty oil". Well, the Chinese and others will be more than happy to take that "dirty crude" off the Canadians hands. I predict that an Obama presidency, combined with Pelosi and Reid in Congress will be having people wistfully saying: "Gee, I miss George Bush" (and I am no Bush fan!). Sara Palin is being attacked by Democrat spokesmen for a lack of administrative experience (small town mayor, two years as a governor) what a laugh...Sara has MORE administrative experience than the other three men in this race combined!!!

The New Energy Cold War: The Warsaw-Tehran Connection
Assuming Mr. Litle's premise and conclusion are correct, I fail to see a sensible suggestion for action. Putin is playing with the fires of hell as he covers for Iran. I agree that Russia is dangerous. I also agree with other posters that we need to proceed at flank speed to develop conventional and non-conventional energy resources in the U.S. I also understand that some in Europe believe that there are possibly large deposits of shale natural gas in Europe as well. Europe is looking at having its' foreign policy dictated in Moscow.

Wind Turbine Market Estimated To Reach $60.9 Billion by 2013
I Understand that Denmark has concluded that getting 20% of your electricity from wind is the maximum a grid can handle due to the variability of wind energy. So wind becomes an important supplement but not the complete answer. Another problem to overcome is the resistance long distance electricity lines have moving the juice from origin to the consumer. I am long natural gas and GE.

Obama Is Bad for the Economy - Barron's
I believe Proud Alien is seeing the problem narrowly. BOTh political parties have been seduced by the corrupt environment in Washington. Of course the environment on Wall Street is no better. Imagine a well known "Investment Bank" creating a fictitious "silver deposit" and not only selling shares to investors, but having the chutzpah to charge "storage fees" on a non-existent hoard of silver. The Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac scandals have involved many Democrats (Chris Dodd, anyone?) as well as Republicans. It is astounding that a GSE could spend MILLIONS to lobby Congress while tapping the Federal til. The present "leadership" and membership of Congress will continue the same policies that have carried us to the brink of disaster.

Looming Financial Catastrophe: A Real Inconvenient Truth
The situation the writer described is self-perpetuating. The only way it can possibly change is to enact two things: A constitutional amendment to limit members of Congress to 12 years; two terms for Senators and six for members of the House. The second is a statute that makes it a criminal offense for ANY former member of Congress to lobby. Unfortunately, the latter would have to be enacted by Congress and the former could only happen through a petition from the states, and state legislators always have hopes to later enter Congress. Forget about a Constitutional Convention because EVERYBODY in Washington is terrified of that!. Lastly, Congress would never initiate a Constitutional amendment to limit terms because it would lead to their demise. Thus, the avenues for reform are in the very hands of the people who are screwing us. This description applies to Republicans, Democrats, Vegetarians, Rosicrucians, Scientologists and any other group of dipsticks. Congress has exempted itself from, among others, paying FICA Tax, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, OSHA, etc. etc. Collectively, CONGRESS IS THE ENEMY AND WE SOMEHOW ELECTED THEM!!!
