What's the Real Story With the Price of Crude Oil?
I concur with Oil Baron. Most easily obtainable oil has been found and exploited. Any future oil supplies will be permanently more costly to find and produce. Speculators have recognized this and are piling into the oil market. Our benighted environmentalists have put us in the present situation by making Three Mile Island equivalent to Chernobyl.(it never was) They also claimed the Caribou would be wiped out if we drilled in the North Slope. We did and the Caribou herds have continued to prosper and grow. Castro has authorized drilling off the Cuban coast much closed than our enviros would allow. I am waiting for the citizenry to recognize that environmentalists are part of the problem, not the solution.

      Inflation Protection Ideas
I have a great deal of respect for Mr. Nusbaum and his astute judgments. However, I support the observation of Mr. Fredrickson(noted above) regarding the wisdom of investing in TIPS. My wife and I put a significant amount of our savings in Vanguard TIPS a few years ago. We have begun exiting our position because I believe the government is not keeping honest books on inflation. Our currency is being flown into the ground to bail out big money center banks who conducted themselves unethically and foolishly. Thus, the game is rigged against the little guy.

      Who's Wrong About Inflation?
If a private individual or business were to engage in the kind of statistical manipulation the government is doing, there would be angry congressional hearings demanding the Department of Justice undertake a prosecution. I wonder if former senator John Edwards will launch a pro-bono lawsuit on behalf of all citizens accusing the government of malpractice? Don't expect future President Obama to set this right either.

I have to support Mike Stathis in this issue. As a retiree I have not bought a TV, improved or otherwise, in ten years. I am now paying $3.89 for a loaf of bread that cost me $2.50 last year. The cost of energy insidiously drives up the cost of all goods and services. Hedonics shmedonics!!

Regarding CK's comments about the United States' aggression toward others. It is an evil world and evil is relative from country to country. Since C K thinks the U.S. is beyond redemption, I suggest he or she move to the People's Republic of China or the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea. The possibilities are endless... Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Zimbabwe, etc. etc. I really detest pious, unctuous, smug self righteousness. It's time to put your money where your mouth is.

Consumers, Politicians, and Economists at Odds Over Gas Tax
I agree with WayneS on the tax issue. I voted for John McCain in the Florida Primary but this tax holiday proposal is really dumb. We need every dime for infrastructure and I would predict that retailers and wholesalers would swallow the tax in the price to increase their margins.

The Shocking Reality of High Gas Prices
That nice man Bill Clinton vetoed drilling in ANWAR. Ted Kennedy, tender soul, doesn't want windmills to spoil his view of the ocean. My fellow Floridians expect Texas,Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama to provide the natural gas for 23% of their electric grid. For God sakes, don't drill in the Gulf(Fidel Castro will do that for us). Most of Congress wont approve using publicly owned lands in the Mountain West to develop hydrocarbons. And then we decry the importantion of oil and the debasement of our currency. This country seems to have succumbed to mass insanity.

The Market Domino Effect: Staying Ahead of the Curve
I hear what Texasgolfer is saying. However I think "W" must bear some responsibility for the fiscal mess of the Federal Government. I admit to voting for George W. Bush twice. We get the government we deserve. Most of the time, I find my self voting for the "evil of the two lessers".
The SUPREME COURT, IN THEIR INFINITE WISDOM, KILLED THE IDEA OF TERM LIMITS. I do not believe we can straighten out the cesspool in Washington until we can stop the lifetime careerists in Congress and elsewhere in government.
