  • Hedging Rising Interest Rates [View article]
Nick - just to be clear for other readers, the interested rate hedged ticker is LQDH. I think the payout will be nearly the same plus an additional 0.20% expense ratio. It actually hold LQD directly plus the hedge.

  • There's No Money To Be Made From Here, Maybe [View article]
I always pause with your TLT choice given long term bond's interest rate risk. I know historically it has performed well. But, with interest-rate hedged bond ETFs like IGHG and HYHG, why take on the interest rate risk when you can get a similar yield with comparable default risk? Or, one can mitigate the interest rate risk with a cheap but good actively managed bond ETF like RIGS (.22% net exp. ratio) that will optimize duration and yield curve strategies. I am curious about your thoughts on this.

pat12357 shows that "contempt and ridicule" extends to people of all religious perspectives. Thanks for illustrating my original point.

"That is why you never see intelligent people become religious as adults. "

People evolve towards and away from religion as they progress through life for many personal reasons, some good some bad. There is no "intelligence" chasm.

  • 3 ETF Trends That Might Shock The 'Risk-On' Mindset [View article]
    Gary,

Are you still bullish on DSUM? I actually bought in part based on your perspective here. But now it is down 4% in the past 2 months since you wrote this article.

  • Investors Should Avoid Adding New Money To Junk Bond ETFs [View article]
What do you think of HYHG (ProShares High Yield—Interest Rate Hedged, SEC 30-day yield 4.75%) and IGHG (ProShares Investment Grade—Interest Rate Hedged, SEC 30-day yield 3.71%)? Both ETFs short treasuries to make an effective duration of 0. My understanding is the ETFs eliminate interest rate risk and you're left with only credit risk. Based on your article, I gather IGHG would be smart play.

Has your bullish opinion of DSUM changed in light of China's recent slow-down and yuan's dip? DSUM (which I own) has dropped about 1.5% since your article published.

  • Buffett takes bond holdings to lowest in over a decade [View news story]
What about bond ETFs like HYHG that are high yield bonds with a hedge in the form of shorted treasuries? Wouldn't that enable income with minimal interest rate hike risk?

Hi David. I bought your ebook last year and really found it useful in building a new DG stock portfolio.

Question: With the theoretical potential for a larger account value from a 'total return' strategy when you retire in 2018, wouldn't you at that time be able to buy more shares and thus a higher income stream?
