    • Cleveland Cliffs vs. Harbinger: Will the Hedgies Win? [view article]
The current situation fully reflects the ongoing problem facing management ,stockholders and the regulatory bodies.Hedge Funds have one objective, maximize profits. In my opinion they have advantages which the average investor does not possess-huge amounts of capital-which can be used to achieve their objectives.Naked short selling is just one of the tools in their arsenal, they also trade on multiple markets for opacity.Hedge Funds should be subjected to the same rules as retail customers and be required to trade strictly during trading hours of the U.S.markets.In addition,if their holdings exceed 9% a notice of their intentions should be made public prior to execution. • The SEC's Campaign Against Short Sellers [view article]
Naked short selling should be banned or require more transparency. The idea that unlimited funds can be used to drive the markets is unethical.Short sellers of greater than a small percentage of the float should be required to report their intentions prior to taking action.Naked short selling does not help the small investor. I have beeen telling my friends"Running vehicles on natural gas is a known, practical, clean less expensive technology. The only thing holding more aggressive advertising is the fear of politicos not collecting their taxes. In my opinion it is all about money and nothing else. Aug 03 09:12 PM

    • Crude Reality: Big Oil's Purposely Restricting Supply [view article]
Tony must have smoked before writing this piece of crap.I got into the oil business in 1962 when it was a low profit industry. The short sighted greenies prompted the plugging of more than 300,000 stripper wells which today would have added about amillion barrels of production per day.Do the math and you can see that our outflow of dollars woild have been reduced by $125,000,000. per day.Consider the number of individyuals coulh have enjoyed liveable wages.Drill,drill,dril... should be the slogan for the next decade, increase employment, decrease welfare, states could enjoy a cash cow in the form of royalties, taxes could come down if the politicos stop spending and we would really have the American Dream.Unfortunately some people don't want that because the public will not be living on handouts in the form of silly rebates.Let's wise up and throw the present bums out with term limits and get real representation. I really hate to admit it but Hedge Funds, rational or irrational still hold sway. They can trade on any Market and 24 hours a day.Information overload and analysts set things topsy turvy;ie.miss the analysts' estimates by one cent and the stock caves.Tere are too many conflicts of interest on the street.Until banks will be banks and investment bankers limit themselves to underwritings,pandemon... will reign. The article makes sense. From my readings the demand is outstripping the supply.I don't see that picture changing because hunger is a basic drive in human world.Once people get the taste of food from developed nations it's kind of difficult to go back the primitive days.Supply without demand goes nowhere but demand greater than supply is the winning formula. • Analysts Come to Coal's Defense Following Yesterday's Sell-off [view article]
Piggy Banks' comments are well thought out. However;with all this rhetoric about alternative energy my question is"What is available today/".The problem in the U.S. is the knee jerk reaction and lack of a comprhensive energy policy. If ANWAR was opened up ten years ago we would be importing one million barrels less of oil. When opponents of drilling say new oil sources are ten years away witjout positive action it will always be ten years away.Personally we could reduce global warming it the politicos would do less talking and more action. • Ur Energy Moves Closer to Wyoming Mining Approval [view article]
The United States must develop a sensible, difficult for politicians, program which co-ordinates fossil fuels, petroleum and natural gas into a doable sensible energy policy. If for no other reason than our negative balance of payments, domestic drilling and using natural gas to power our vehicles is a must.In my mind the government is more cioncerned about the loss of fuel taxes than the effect on the environment. I'm retired from Medicine after 50 years.During my career I was actively involved in domestic oil production.Policy Makers have myopic vision as does the American Public. The biggest mistake of the 80's was the plugging of more than 300,000 stripper wells. The second mistake foisted on the public by misguided do gooders is the prohibition of drilling on Federal Lands.Imagine the Royalty income state and the Federal Government is losing. I am a retired physician.I began my practice when there was no FDA.In my opinion it is unfortunate when government becomes involved because politics reigns supreme.Academicians have a role-teaching.The old expression "those who can do.Those who can't teach."Members of committees making judgements should have practice related experience because many on these cmommittes are too far removed from the actual practice of medicine. I wonder why the author has taken this approach.Understandabl... the price rise has been meteric but doesn't demand play a role? The demand is not a quirk. It is a real problem to feed the world population.Adding to the woes is the misguided group called environmentalists and their climate agenda. That is why prices have gone up and will probably see demand rising while prices may pause temporarily.
