I retired from a major steel company in 1998. We got on our sailboat after moving all of our stuff to Florida. I put my IRA with a large well known brokerage company which my dad was using at that time, and they managed over 10 years to do almost nothing with the growth of my fund. Of course they were charging large fees, so that is where a lot of money went up in smoke. Maybe I was too conservative and too trusting, but I think my gut feeling was in the right place about this company, because they went belly up in 2010 and got bought out by another bank. I had moved my IRA to another brokerage which I trust, about a year before they went belly up. I began to read a lot of information on the internet. Seeking Alpha has been a huge influence on my investing strategies. There is a tremendous amount of talent which contributes to this site. I read a lot, and respect most of the views that are presented in SA. I remain a very conservative investor.
