yeah, I'd definitely listen to this guy.
earnings have nothing to do with any of this.

speculation is just that. numbers don't lie. look at revenue and profit margins.

  • AMR (AAMRQ.PK) CEO Tom Horton is having discussions with officials from American Airlines and US Airways (LCC) over what his role would be at a combined airline. Whatever position is carved out for him, it's believed that it will be below US Airways top exec Doug Parker who is most likely to be pegged as the new CEO of the world's largest airline by traffic if the merger is finalized. [View news story]
    Economies of scale?

Please explain JetBlue, Alaska, Spirit, and others who pay much higher wages and profit on far less " economies of scale "

Parker is a one trick pony and profits only from a labor cost advantage. If he runs a new American, it will lose money from the beginning until another C11 filing.

    Count on it.

If you guys think Parker can run an airline you better think again.

He is running an airline based on paying his people at far less wages than all other major airlines. Tim Tebow could run an airline with that kind of advantage. He has never, never, run an airline to profit when on equal labor cost footing.

And I won't even mention the DUI and mug shots and nights in jail. Ooops, I guess I just did.

If the merger happens the UCC would be well advised to find someone out there who knows what they're doing. Horton and Parker aren't capable.

  • What now? After pilots at American Airlines (AAMRQ.PK) rejected a new contract deemed as too long, the matter lands in the lap of a bankruptcy judge. The drama this week suggests that current management is resoundingly unpopular with employees and most likely sets back a merger plan with US Airways (LCC +1.4%). [View news story]

  • Suitors For American Airlines: Better Prospects If We Look North To Alaska Air [View article]
The missing point here is that AKA would want to merge with AMR.

Regardless of the well researched reasoning (although some of it is conjecture), the route structure of the combination is not one that would compete profitably with the other mega carriers.

LCC is biting off a big piece of cake if this merger happens. I truly don't think Parker or Kirby is capable of running an operation of this size. They would actually have to run an airline rather than rely on labor cost advantages to make money. Don't think they can do it.
