sunnypt, you are actually describing what is my experience. I went to a chase advisor who promptly placed over 100g into 2 chase high expense ratio insurance funds. Now that I am disabled, more time has been spent reading, and so I gradually moved some of these funds over the last 2 years to V, Brk.B, JPM, Tal, to name a few. I am still wrestling with an advisor at another company where I am unable to do my own trading, to sell the remaining high expense ratio mutual funds. I was able to purchase some PPA, and other stocks while he was absent. Why are some companies controlling investors ability to participate in the trade process?

  • Alan Abelson Died: Lives On Through A Generation He Defined [View article]
There is an old adage that goes, "we get old too quick, and smart, too late." You have renewed my confidence in your generation's values as well as willingness to recognize the worth of your elders. Maybe we will have fewer nursing homes sometime soon.
    Nothing like a thankful person.
Thanks to James and all who have responded to his article.

sunnypt, thanks I did that and because of the God-blessed advice from SA staff I have been doing so well that a year ago we started an over-the road transportation business. Working a 12-15hr shift daily, certainly damaged my investment outcome, as Hamilton Cavanaugh, had the 401k invested in high expense ratio >2% and passively managed funds, $250 biweekly for over 17 years. At the end all I had was a little over 100g. I used my injury to empower myself by researching and making the necessary changes. I am sharing the information with others who are in a similar situation. Thanks

  • Court ruling is win for card companies, loss for retailers [View news story]
bbrock4 you are sooo right. I am filing a complaint. It appears that foreign banks including CITIBANK are making great profits from this practice which nationals and foreigners seem not to give much attention.

ScotiaBank charges $5 for each swipe in Latin America even though the data on the screen says 500 colones. This would be one US dollar.

  • Who Has The Better Dividends: Procter & Gamble Or Clorox? [View article]
Dave, while overseas I noted that CLX has processing plants in Latin America. Am I correct in concluding that this contributes to a positive financial outcome in view of the differences in salaries, exchange rates and less concerns about weather conditions and unions. I too agree that, for new investors, the vocabulary which was not riddled with "financial jargon" facilitates a better understanding of what we have gotten ourselves into, helps in maker wiser choices and alleviates some fears.

PBE has a high expense ratio, 0.63%, however, I believe the holdings makes it worthwhile. I was unable to find an etf with a reasonable BIIB %. I also own some XLV.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [View article]
JohnBin Tn The problem is the greater percentage of buyers are unaware that they have the right to purchase their HO insurance, PMI should not have been included, and are even more ignorant about the over-escrow issue. They swallow what is presented to them without questioning. I have found that it takes about 10 years before homeowners begin to discover the unethical practices, which have contributed to their problems with mortgage payments. Some had >$3000 in escrow and the taxes had not been paid by the mortgagor for >2 years. Average annual taxes $1275. Folk I know find it difficult to keep up with the escrow increases.

Some homeowners report that defaults occur because a condition for approval is their agreement that the mortgage companies pay the taxes and insurance. These insurance premiums, in most instances, cost $1000 more than what the homeowner paid for the same coverage. Additionally, the amounts held in escrow increase the monthly mortgage payment by $300 or more. These homeowners ask that they be allowed to take responsibility for these expenses.
