  • Apple Should Pay Its Tax Bill [View article]
Michael,Take a course in US taxation. Some of that money can be used very effectively overseas. If this administration would forego the socialism for a while and repatriate with a 10% flat tax they could reap @$10 Billion. However, there is no one on the left side of the table who has any tax experience. And please do not say that Bernanke and Geitner have any knowledge.Geitner has dodged taxes in the past.

  • Reflections On The Current State Of Apple [View article]
Bret, Just as an aside.I subscribe to a technical letter which has been spot on about AAPL and the market in general. He was on a road trip yesterday ,and his presentation included detailed comments on AAPL.His support is also 420,and has been his downside target for many months. However,he sold 420 April puts for $18 a short time ago,and he feels that the put premium he collected is free money.Just another opinion, but he is one of the few technicians I feel has credibility.

  • Foxconn parent Hon Hai (HNHAF.PK), which is believed to get 60%-70% of its revenue from Apple (AAPL +1.2%), reported a 19% Y/Y drop in calendar Q1 sales to $27B. KGI Securities: "A quarterly decline was expected, but not a yearly decline ... This shows that Hon Hai's revenue depends too much on Apple, and iPhone orders corrected more than expected." Nonetheless, Apple is following the tech sector higher, a possible sign a weak Q1 is priced in. [View news story]
Then why were 80% of the cell phone activations in the first quarter iPhones??Check my facts. You may find something that disputes this.

Finally a voice crying in the wilderness.I thought AAPL was going out of business. For the short term, let's hope that Q2 earnings aren't too bad and that Tim Cook does a better job on the earnings conference call than he did after Q1.

  • Apple (AAPL -1.4%) could strike iRadio deals with Warner Music and Universal within the next week, CNET's Paul Sloan reports. He adds Apple's service will provide studios with fresh monetization options, such as a cut of audio ad revenue and an option for users to buy songs they're listening to. In-line with earlier reports, Apple is said to be baking in unique features, such as "the ability to jump back to the beginning of a song." Last week, The Verge reported Apple is shooting for a summer launch, while noting the music industry has a "love-hate relationship" with Pandora (P -3.6%). [View news story]

  • Count Bill Miller as an Apple (AAPL +0.8%) bull. "Apple is ... like Nike, a consumer brand with great loyalty," the famous fund manager states in an FT interview. He thinks shares would rally "close to 50%" if Apple simply committed to paying out all future free cash flow through dividends, while keeping its $137B cash/investment hoard on its balance sheet. [View news story]
Best idea I've heard yet.Current cash is plenty for R and D,expansion, etc.Could boost dividend by half with no sweat by doing this.
