Thank you David for putting this list together. I have used it to start positions in CL, WAG, GIS, T, KO, CSX, BMS, KMB, K, SJM, and PG over the last few months. Your work is greatly apprectiated.

  • Correction Arrived Early For Walgreen - So Now What After Only OK Dividend Hike? [View article]
Almost a 6% gain in less then a week on WAG. I guess I could sell now for a years worth of yield.

  • Correction Arrived Early For Walgreen - So Now What After Only OK Dividend Hike? [View article]
Everyone has different reasons for buying or not buying. I liked adding MCD at $20 and DIS at $24 years back. Though I sold out of MCD at $100 I still hold DIS. For me MCD is what WAG is to others. There is no way I would buy that stock currently.

I bought WAG at $59 on the pull back. Was tempted to sell yesterday for a 3% gain. To an pure income investor that would have made my year for that money. I guess I hope 20 years from now I look back and say buying at $59 instead of $55 really didn't matter. At least I will be getting 2.3% on my money in the mean time.

  • Walgreen - Brutal Sell-Off Offers An Attractive Entry For The Patient Long-Term Investor [View article]
I could not resist either. I opened a 200 SH position at $59. If it continues to slide I will add more at a lower price. A forward PE of 16 and a yield of 2.25% would get even better if it falls to low $50's.

  • Why Thursday's Sell-Off Matters [View article]
The half they are shedding amounts to less than 5% of profit. I say grow the ones that are generating 95% of the profit.

Things have a tendency of moving down after buying so I would guess you will get a chance. I will buy another 100 below $60.

    I agree.

I started positions in XOM, CL, K and added to GIS and PG today. If I am wrong and they proceed lower I will add another 100 of each. Each is well off their highs (some as much as 10%) so it seemed like time. If tomorrow brings more opportunites I may buy CLX, CB and MCD.

  • McDonald's misses by $0.04, misses on revenue [View news story]
I agree. I sold over 15 months ago at $95 and I see this morning pre-market has it selling at $95.80. Almost time to consider getting back in for the dividend.

Thanks for the write up on CSX. Bought in April and so far up 11+% plus a dividend has been paid. Look forward to a long relationship with this stock.

  • How Do You Manage Your 'Low Conviction' Positions? [View article]
    bmayfield,
I'm in much the same position (portfolio wise). In Feb I rolled a larger sized 401K from all mutual funds into an account that can have stocks. That for about a 3 week period I was in limbo as the money had to transfer. The day the funds sold was a pretty good down day. Over the next 3 weeks the market moved and most of the stocks I was looking at moved as well (JNJ, COP, CVX, PEP, KMB, etc). I have picked off a few when they dropped after earnings (CSX, SJM, T, ARCP and a couple others). The majority of the money is waiting to deploy. I just can't get myself to buy many of the big names when they have PE's over 18 or have run 10% in 3 weeks. Good luck to you. Patience is what I using.

  • Don't Be An Arrogant Dividend Growth Investor [View article]
    DD,
If that works for you, great. That let's you sleep at night. I don't feel comfortable holding $80,000 in one stock. If I only held 10-15 stocks that is what it would have to be. I feel better having about $20,000 in each position. That means I will hold 50+ soon. I currently have 35 and am in the process of watching some PE's to add a few more Chowder worthy stocks. Like you, I'm not out to beat the market either. I am out to build a portfolio that will pay me a certain amount per month 20 years from now. I stopped trying to keep up with the neighbors many years ago.

I just rolled over a larger 401K and am trying to find 20-25 stocks to buy so I know what you went through. Too many PE's above 20 so it is a waiting game. Hoping for better summer values. So far I have added O, ARCP, MPW, GIS, SJM, T, EMR, BMS, AFL, CSX, INTC, CSCO, and have my eye on many more. I can afford to go a little lower on yield being under 50.

Thanks for sharing your journey. I am years away from retirement but time flies.

I like that you are honest about the time it takes to convert over to income producing investments. Some contributors on SA make it sound like an investor can make the change quickly (from accumulation to income). On the other hand, I believe it is best to be a DGI from day one and let things flow seamlessly from one point in my life to another. I do hold a few low dividend stocks but for the most part my companies are on on the CCC list (thanks to David Fish).
