What If We'd Been on the Gold Standard?
Oil is not a reserve standard. This is simply not true. You do not see central banks buying up billion of gallons of oil!

What If We'd Been on the Gold Standard?
If we stayed on the Gold Standard then the DOW would still be under 1,000 and the average home would be $45,000.00, and America would be much, much poorer.
There would be no capital to finance anything. We went off the Gold Standard when we ran out of Gold. There was not enough Gold to back the number of dollars the economy could absorb to raise the living standard and to economically grow.

The Gold Standard: Can't Live With It, Can't Live Without It
People need to understand the reason we went off the Gold Standard:

WE RAN OUT OF GOLD. WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO KEEP PRINTING MORE MONEY.

The question is was it the right thing to do? Where would the capital come from to finance the growth from 1974 to now?

The Subprime Three -- Rubin, Summers & Greenspan
sivere, I am one who agrees with Ron Paul on much. However, we have turned America into nothing more than a financial game. Not sure how we can cope without a Fed in the economy we have, circa 2008. It is not 1912.

      Alan Greenspan Talks Housing
Why were teaser rates ever allowed? Why did Congress not mandate that everyone had to qualify at the re-set rate, not the teaser rate? Why did Congress not mandate that everyone had to put down 10% and only a 15 year or 30 year fixed rate mortgage was allowed? This is basically what the rules were up until the 1990's for much of the industry.
