I sort of agree but only with a certain size, again 10-11" seems to be the sweetspot for such a convergence. But 7-9", hmmm ....

I think there's enough interest for Apple to do a,
    iPhablet
    iPad
    MB Air with removable keyboard

I use hotspots daily to do serious work, on any given session I'll use my phone, ipad and MBP. Everything from Skype to Evernote to Video production to accounting spreadsheets, at times I say to myself, why am I still pulling out the MBP and putting it back!

  • For those still keeping score, Tesla (TSLA) added another 14.38% to last week's post-earnings bonanza , bringing the three-day total percentage change to +57%. Amusingly, the rally didn't let up AH either, as the stock tacked on an additional 2.51%, hitting $90 just before 8 p.m. [View news story]
Yep I was thinking of waiting until some bad news, dip, whatever, but I may take off my initial investment if it hits $100.

Yep, but keep in mind the plant was orignally opened in 1962, after closing and reopening it focused on small cars, but started with the 1984 Nova.

So even though the 370 acres is worth a fortune today, by the time Toyota inherited it, the capital outlay was minimal if not fully depreciated, eh?!

So although $42M was a "steal" neither GM nor Toyota were out a penny!

    Ashraf,

I actually like your line of reasoning, and I'm back in the AAPL game having dropped out under $600 and jumped back in at below $500. Long INTC, NOK and AAPL in fact.

I think a few posters are misunderstanding your main idea of the convergence - laptop and tablet - amidst the ARM/Intel idea.

IMHO, the next logical evolution is MacBook Pro to the Air form factor and a merging of the 10" iPad and 11" Air. The latter does appear to be awfully redundant. I believe Tim Cook's point is that touch screen on a laptop was not ready for prime time, not that it would never occur, a convertible is pretty cool. Same thing with Job's comment about a smaller iPad.

Anywho, time will tell, there's supposed to be a serious form factor change with the Air this summer as I recall.

@nathan, shame on you! Now we see your real agenda?
@glenn, kudos to you for drawing out the real hidden agenda.

@stub, but using your argument anyone purchasing g a sport or performance car will want to push their cars "harder"and "faster" which means the ICE and or HEV being compared to will have a increase over the EPAs calculations as well.

In the real world of commuting and weekend cruises this is exactly what happens in CA, the only ones doing 70 are in the slow lane and sometimes that's too slow!

On my hilly route, 280 between SF and San Jose, speeds routinely approach and exceed 90mph. And this all vehicles: especially the Japanese rockets and European imports, and Oh Yes even the Prius hybrids! I *cough* have one!

Nathan's right they did find a clunk. ... After 10:30 of singing the praises of MS, in fact in the beginning they said of all the wonderful attributes it was hard to pick which to start out with. It still comes down to 19 minutes justifying their 99/100!

Just curious, are you advising your clients to avoid or short because the Model S "is a dirty car", or because Tesla is a bad investment compared to other auto companies and or technology companies?

On the surface these seem to me to be mutually exclusive reasons!?

  • Shares of Tesla Motors (TSLA) move up 2.3% premarket as last week's earning report euphoria doesn't show any early signs of fading. Pacific Crest may have seen enough of the momentum/short squeeze run, warning that over the long term the automaker needs to ramp up gross margins to 25% from 5% and demonstrate sustainable demand. [View news story]
Individual importers? Wow, how does that work? Is Tesla selling to car brokers? What does that do for software updates, warranty, etc.?

Haven't thought of that yet, a used car market for Model S, ... already!

I think what was reported was that there was some aggressive phone calls to get some who were sitting on the fence to commit and that led to closed deals and delivered cars.

Which is consistent w dropping the reporting of reservation numbers, Tesla is implementing strategies to get rid of dead weight on the reservation lists.

  • Call it momentum or call it a short squeeze, but one way or another shares of Tesla Motors (TSLA +11.8%) are putting in their routine double-digit gain and cleared $80 before settling back. The trading puts Tesla's share price at nearly 80X 2014 earnings estimates, meaning buying the EV automaker today is a bet that its technology will be truly transformative. One company in harm's way from the Tesla juggernaut could be Toyota (TM +2.2%) if Tesla stays ahead in battery development. It's an apples-to-oranges comparison (cost), but today the Prius claims a limited driving range of 11 miles/charge compared to the Model S's range of 260 miles. [View news story]
... to be fair, that's sort of a misquote, the Prius does not come in an all EV model.

The Prius plug-in has an EV only mode of 11 miles, but it is a Hybrid, PHEV. Just like the Fisker, and the Volt, and the C-Max, yada, yada ... so for a 50 mile commute one can expect a 72mpg, for 11-50 mile commute at least 51mpg, just like a regular Prius HEV. and between 5-11 mile commute 99+ mpge.

Now the Leaf on the other hand is a pure EV range 110 miles range, and the EV RAV4 comes in at 103 miles.

Disclosure: your actual miles may vary! Ha

Good point Glenn, but if you run the numbers for a 4 sec luxury car, getting maybe 20mpg, that equates to 1,500 miles per month. I drive the San Francisco to San Jose corridor and put in 2,000 miles per month.

Hence, 1,500 miles per month, is only 60-75 miles per day, roundtrip.

Same thing goes with insurance comparing apples to apples. We're talking a 4 sec luxury car to a 4 sec luxury car. Recently there was a SA article comparing cost of ownership to a, what, Honda Civic, ... really?
