    Wow!

I think this is the first SA Article where all the commenters are in agreement on the subject matter, to the detriment of the author ... well all except pinto beans, whose first post on SA is against the flow.

I don't understand, are you trying to view and respond to your Gmail on your iPhone? You can simply use POP or IMAP <I've forgotten which is Gmail> through settings. You don't need to use any browser at all!

The ability to tune out my cars AC, noise canceling needs a little work!

Oh, and there appears to be a glitch searching for restaurants outside present location, in another city. Often I want to order out 30 miles from my destination, say on the way home from work, but Siri seems to always do a small circle around present location

Same here, there's personal bias, and then there's investing! Albeit, my Apple position is larger.

@ Rick and Matt, Yep, I've wondered about that myself. There must be some incredible internal dynamics going on or Apple is not revealing what's up there sleeve.

Don't get me wrong I know there are some issues with 3D and collapsed buildings, and it should have been announced as a Beta product, yada, yada, ... iDevice users went from subpar, second rate citizens in the Google universe to a normal navigation and integrated map-search experience. I really didn't care about 3D and still don't really.

But yes, a commercial couldn't hurt, maybe Apple, like many users, think the advantage is so obvious why market it?

I wonder if it is a humorous attempt by Apple to expose the emperors (Google's) new clothes? Now is not that great an experience!

    @ Know ...

I don't know, the water is still under the bridge. One of the many hats I wear is coaching two youth and young adult bands. For rehearsal we use dedicated presentation and scheduling software, but also youtube for songs I'm too lazy to purchase music for.

Oh my, Youtube/Vevo, is becoming a pain to use. The ads are obnoxious and a waste of good rehearsal time. The teens and 20-somethings are finding workarounds and losing interest very fast in YouTube as the default streaming for music (videos), I agree, this week I'm abandoning it altogether and kicking it in gear to use my dedicated software to its fullest potential.

    @ Matt,

I totally agree with Camden, "at the time", which 50% of comments forget or did not know, there was zip - zero - turn by turn on the iPhone but Android users did have turn by turn. Even the existing Google Map app did not deliver turn by turn to the iPhone user. And the rest is distorted history. And frankly you would not know if you were not a "high traffic web user" who made high-end use of the Apple ecosystem - the original Google Map app became incredibly irrelevant with other given other stellar apps like Waze.

As far as I was concerned as an iPhone user Google abandoned me/us to give Android users a more robust experience. So I for one don't use Google on iDevices anymore. But I digress.

Even with out my bias, the current version of Apple Maps is superior to Google Maps, so in this case, to answer your question, specifically because it is better integrated into all other aspects of the iDevice ecosystem. At first I was compelled merely by the turn by turn, now I find full integration a far superior experience than Google Maps altogether.

  • Apple: The iPad Faces Unprecedented Competition [View article]
I sort of agree but only with a certain size, again 10-11" seems to be the sweetspot for such a convergence. But 7-9", hmmm ....

I think there's enough interest for Apple to do a,
    iPhablet
    iPad
    MB Air with removable keyboard

I use hotspots daily to do serious work, on any given session I'll use my phone, ipad and MBP. Everything from Skype to Evernote to Video production to accounting spreadsheets, at times I say to myself, why am I still pulling out the MBP and putting it back!

    Ashraf,

I actually like your line of reasoning, and I'm back in the AAPL game having dropped out under $600 and jumped back in at below $500. Long INTC, NOK and AAPL in fact.

I think a few posters are misunderstanding your main idea of the convergence - laptop and tablet - amidst the ARM/Intel idea.

IMHO, the next logical evolution is MacBook Pro to the Air form factor and a merging of the 10" iPad and 11" Air. The latter does appear to be awfully redundant. I believe Tim Cook's point is that touch screen on a laptop was not ready for prime time, not that it would never occur, a convertible is pretty cool. Same thing with Job's comment about a smaller iPad.

Anywho, time will tell, there's supposed to be a serious form factor change with the Air this summer as I recall.

@John, I always think the simplest answer is the best answer, and you nailed it, Apple probably sees a storm coming that outsiders like we investors just can't see. They may need to "acquire" themselves into new markets where their combination/strategy of new products and great user experience can produce high margins. That takes massive cash - the days of cheap acquisitions may be over!?
