You can't get any real revenue or profit for a individual segment like x box the way MSFT Provides info. Companies will say they sold y amount of say x boxes. Have you ever seen a number given for returns? You may remember the headlines last year the MSFT "wrote off" 900 mil on surface
How did they do it? Did they take provisions? Did they give discounts to their distributors?
If companies were forced to use the cost accounting method we would be able to know exactly what was going on. It's never going to happen because that would show managements weaknesses. Everyone puts their spin on it.

Harry Reid the senator from Nevada writes that his uncle died at an event held in his honor. True, He was hung for his crimes. Now that's great spin.

First Thanks for the reply. While I trade MSFT almost everyday either stock or options. I have had a low opinion of Apple since Jobs passed
I made a lot of money shorting apple last year and by your comments
wondered if it was time to review if apple was a candidate to short again.
Your reference to ipad an the line Can you even call that technology?
struck a funny cord with me, only because some of the $hit coming out
of these companies including MSFT look like lipstick on a pig.

How much did JPM make during his tenure?

Get that number and we can rate him otherwise your comment has no real value. One side of an equations is only spin.

Many times fines are the cost of doing business.

Greenspan in many ways was the village idiot. The main problem is for bankers like myself is to main street we got painted by a wide brush.
you have savings, real estate , commercial, investment and international bankers.
Now like doctors we each have a specialty. yes they sometimes overlap.
I was in international banking for most of my career. The only mortgages I touched was on my own home. When Occupy Wall ST happened I watched in horror when a well dressed professor said you did need international banks.
Without international banks you would have no foreign cars nor the gasoline to drive them, you would have no light rail because it foreign manufactures who provide them, Boeing wouldn't be selling most of it's commercial airliners, you would not many cell phone or tablets. Wal-mart , Target and most retailers would not have clothes on the racks, limited foreign vacations and few cruises. 25% of the food supply is controlled by foreign entities. No trader joes, no aldi , no Poland spring or Ozark no nestle products like stoffers or lean cuisine. you would also have 20-25% additional unemployed from Shell, BP ,Siemans all the foreign car companies that assemble them here.

    JACKOOO

You're another main street person, who has no clue how the economy and banks work. the dood frank bill has restricted the banks to loan only to people with a credit score of 760. Seeing the median score of America is 720 that means the most of the middle class is on the short end of the stick. In the year you retire the new law says only funds you are guarantied like social security and a defined pension. you could have tons of funds in ira and 401ks but those funds can not be counted for a tradional mortgage. Obama will be on his knees when the middle and lower economic classes find out how they got screwed. Sure their going to have the community reinvestment act however in those plans the banks are guaranteed repayment by the tax payer. Going forward if your a small business owner you either need a great credit score or be on first name basis with the neighborhood factoring agent(loan shark).
How do you like to big to fail now that only the biggest banks can survive
the regulations. Somebody forgot the rule of unintended consequences.

The employment picture is regional but the stats are national. Example owner single occupancy housing, in the big coastal cities not many houses are being built. Here in hill country Texas we have thousands of new houses coming to market monthly. It's not greed, most companies just want to be profitable and efficient. I do agree many large companies do not look long term only how good
there next quarters figures are. The other problems are the markets of many products. If I sell Lexus cars do I care what effects the middle class goes through?
No, my clients are upper middle class to rich. In the city I live with over (50K) residents we have no public transportation now I'm sure this put pressure on the lower economic classes but no one wants to tackle the problem. Being from NYC
I know public transportation has its place but if not run properly its a money pit.
My problem as a senior citizen (baby boomer) is that the two generations behind me seem to be less real educated and have less ambition. I know I'm using generalities. Example many college students who have degrees in the arts seem not to understand if your not in you discipline your worth to business is a HS diploma with a gold star for 4 years of attendance.

Very true however if you invested in United Tech (UTX) since SB was put in charge you would have done better.
