I hold STX as well. From what I've read SSD adoption isn't as big a threat as some would have you think. HDDs will always be around for storing "cold" data and the price per GB gap will increase when STX and WDC release HAMR drives.

Why is every author jumping to conclusions on this deal?

"Regardless of the success or failure of the acquisition, it represents an irresponsible allocation of shareholder capital."

You lost me after this comment

It doesn't make sense to me either but there is a plan here and transparency on the part of FB execs would only undermine their strategy. After reading about Internet.org I'm thinking they're trying to build a worldwide desktop and mobile telecommunications utility. What do you think a company like that would be worth?

"indicative of a management at FB that is unskilled at turnarounds and unskilled at value investing"

What the hell are you talking about?

They purchased instagram at 70mil users and thats now grown to over 180mil and its making money. Once they integrate FB with whatsapp the user base will reach 750mil within a year. How they will monetize it remains to be seen but there is a plan here and so far it has been working.

    Long FB.

"There are only so many people in the world - and most of those who want to be on FB are already on FB"

    "finite advertising budgets"

Facebook has yet to get into China (1/6 of the worlds population). One day, every single person in the world will be connected to the internet. 2/5 of the population still does not have access to the internet. This is why Facebook and other technology companies are pushing initiatives like Internet.org, to one day reach everyone.

As far as advertising, in the US alone its 200 billion and Facebook only sees .05% of that annual budget.

There is so much room to grow and thats why facebook is so overvalued today. Mark is 29 and has his whole life ahead of him to make this happen. It could all fail but if he is success, Facebook could be bigger than AAPL in the next 10 years.

You should be able to anticipate the need for massive amounts of storage going forward. Movie, picture, and music quality is growing. Everything is being archived digitally now. Cloud infrastructure is growing and once everyone realizes the convenience of this, NAS will become a necessity in everyone's home to connect all their content to the dozens of internet capable devices they have. They are estimating data will grow from 2 zettabytes in 2012 to over 30ZB by 2020, that's a 40% CAGR!! Most of that data will be cold and it definitely wont all fit on NAND memory. Look up HAMR technology and go long STX and WDC.

Fake accounts are exaggerated. Its called performance advertising and its really effective and thats why Facebook revenues continues to increase. If it wasn't working, they wouldn't be making money.
