  • Alibaba ordered out of Taiwan; Alipay preps for IPO [View news story]
The size of the fine, says this wasn't a very big deal.

It's in a country with a lot of bribing and deal making. Got to expect some when dealing with a stock in that country.

BABA had already hit ATH's before it came back to earth. So it's not an ATL trader while Nasdq at ATHs. It's cycle timing is shifted. It's also China not US, so it's not going to move in sync with Nasdaq on day to day basis. It had a hit of negative news. The market's expressing a worry over that, but I haven't seen the market always be wise in the short term :).

I'm curious what the risk control strategy is -- since I have BABA.

Thanks. Good points. It's a long term hold for me. So I may be liberal about worrying about a decline and set points. In 5 years, I expect this to be a good buy. However, if I can avoid a big drop to IPO level that'd be nice. Thanks for the price area! It hasn't acted poorly consistently - it's been up on other days. Hard to tell. Good point, taht even 10 points higher -- for a long term, is quite good enough.

" we continue to live in a world dominated not by organic growth, but by currency wars"

    Important point...!

I have BABA at $86.71. Is there a stop you'd use to avoid a strong drop? I can buy back later.

    - E,

Less analytical and without numbers... but I looked at it briefly... and decided to not even research. My take away from PSEC, LINE and a few others... when there's smoke, there's fire, even if it gets cleared for a while. There are so many solid good companies without management playing deep games, there's no need to bet on one where untruthfulness is already part of the core presentation. (I'm still long LINE.)

Smokers get addicted. Never heard of a formaldehyde addiction. :). It's one of the most toxic chemicals found in homes and cars and in sick building syndrome. Plenty of research on it & it's effects, and activists lobbying about it.

    ----

    I'm eyeing JCP.

Down 14% on weak guidance and not as fast a recovery as expected. Last few trips to the mall, the store was hopping with people. Had a positive vibe to it. Stopped having that "will it survive feeling" at the door. It'd be a lottery ticket pay ... but am wondering what others are thinking?

Bought HCLP today @35.55. CCLP @16.71 on a filled order. Three quarter positions.

Wishing I'd waited till the end of day drop! Thought about picking up more after hours on CCLP @16.26, 3% less -- but instead waiting. Maybe a down trend in oils will start...?

Both nice divs, and seem solid, so I'll hold and wait for the recovery in 6mos to 3 years.

Thanks for posting. I would have missed HCLP.

These drive by shootings are frequent? They are a waste of breath. Really wonder, how the poster can not see how they make -them- look.

Boogey is beyond belief. I can explain the follower. Folks of this sort often make additional accounts -- in advance of when their first one is removed.

Well, at least even when replying, other people are learning from your answers. I didn't know those banks were THAT big :), only that they were not obscure.

I am curious. There are times I wish I could get a group of like-type people I find on the internet to answer a survey or meet them in person and interview... so i can find out what's going on in their minds. Cause it has no resemblance to anything going on in mine... Next thought, is the security risk. Because it has no resemblance to anything going on in mine...

Well, happy investing, and I hope you don't get more libelous and snide drive bys...as much as that's possible!

You know what's bothering me about this -- it's so out of the blue. An attack without any basis -- just appearing for no reason.

I would ask them about it first - maybe in PM. I have a variety of people I "followed" starting way back at the beginning, that I've never sorted through. I don't use the following/followed features of SA. Every once in a while I click on someone just so I'll be able to find them again. But since I've never sorted though, that's not likely to help. Instead i just put the ones I like into a file on my own computer.

A few of my authors who's articles are emailed to me, seemed good when I first got here, but now I keep them so I can keep a pulse on ideas contrary to what I'm inclined to think. Eric Par(something) is one who writes well, but he's very bearish all the time. I keep him though because I want to know what the bear views are at any given time. I still have Joe or Joel Kor..sky (what's his name -- that has tons of followers, but his analysis is always lacking) attached. I think I'll remove him, but then it's kind of interesting to see the comments to his articles.

When I saw who this was about -- I remember a negative impression of SDS going back awhile (sometimes I have an impression, but no idea what triggered it), so I would wonder what you're followers are thinking who spend a lot of your time. Definitely, I'd want to know.

I'm certainly not going to defend SDS's motives to you. I was giving him a chance to come back and say "ops, I was completely off on my posts and misread everything" when realizing that he had. He hasn't come back to say so... so my benefit's of doubt have run out. The rest of my comment stands -- he doesn't seem to know enough to recognize someone who does, as you've explained.

I certainly wouldn't report SDS. Much better to have this present to reference later down the road.

It's still all such a ridiculous accusation at you, from every angle, that it's funny.

    SG,

Haaaaa, haaaa, haaaa.... I'll let you know when I stop laughing. I needed a good laugh now that I'm back :).

People have showed up at my "conversation blog" -- just for a chance to ask you a question!

So certainly nothing for you to take personally... or expend time on.

I don't think SDS understanding the SA instablog "promoted to article", process at all -- and that SA pages of article links are controlled by SA! Nor can I see how dividend or income stocks are different concepts. ...since one gets income from the..umm..dividends.

Every once in a while I mis-read something, or read into something where there is nothing there... so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I can see where he got confused. You do find the unusual stocks to buy from a novice stock buyers perspective since they aren't American public's household names. He seems to be mistaking your advanced level of knowledge of investing... with a troll who pokes at small names to pump. Maybe over time, he'll come to appreciate what you're offering!

  • J.C. Penney -14.5% on earnings sell-off [View news story]
If the market wasn't at highs, I'd buy. Last few trips to the mall, JCP looks like it's come alive. People shopping, a nice feel inside. It's been recovering slowly for the last few reports. Reaching out to it's original base.

Never thought of it that way -- by knowing the stocks of interest.. when they show up as a bargain or in a dip... It'd take knowing a few in a similar area, to more easily whether judge that it's down for okay reasons...
