Ex-div is the day the dividend no longer is available (the "ex"). So they had to own through close of the day before ex-div date. So that'd be 26th.

Wasn't following why it's better to have more bonds before transfering to the Roth.

When I calculation, I always do better long term if the money is in a Roth, and I've paid the tax already. I've been slowly moving some over every year.

    One sec - that's

"Payable March 1; for shareholders of record Jan. 29; ex-div Jan. 27."

So the drop would have been yesterday. Today would have only been selling off of those who were in it for that div.

Shark - I missed it but Tdot pointed out, today was ex-date for the .4cent div, so only 1% down now is a pop.

I missed it. Yesterday was ex-div for .40 cents on $12 shares. So 3.33% div payout -- that accounts for a lot of the drop.

Now down less than 1%, so actually a nice pop. Unfortunately no where near my buy in price so that getting out would be comfy.

Tdot - thanks, i missed that as the date. Accounting for 3.33% drop at open for the div... plus any selling on buying for the div. Too bad there wasn't a lot of buying before the div to drive up prices.

    Interesting move.

Don't follow why it matters to transferring to Roth, and tax consequences.

But more bond mix may be great as if the bull dips and there's a move to more safety (bonds).

    I'll put out this idea:

Since oil industry decline is a large part of economy not firing as much as it was. (Separately, the slow recovery is the political policies). Since the oil industry decline is a cause, then stabilizing and recovery in the industry, could improve the economy.

Lower oil prices hasn't been improving the economy in any apparent ways. So higher prices back to what they were, may not be a big change.

Down 5% off the good news.

Haven't noticed the other autos getting trounced on good news. Are they too?

Can someone explain why F gets trounced with every good report?

5% down on beats, and even Europe sales green (which was their problem in the past.)

Other autos beat and go up. So it's not expectation that the industry has peeked. Once or twice down on good news, could be from built in expectations, and selling the news. But it's EVERY report and every time.

The only pop was the day they were being headlined as involved with Amazon auto development.

Comments to F articles expect the trounce but don't have explanations...

  • Update For Portfolio Positioning And Management As Of 1/20/16: CONFIRMATION EVENT In My Vix Model  [View instapost]
Enigmaman - your thoughts of what might happen are interesting. I'll throw out this:

The idea is to position before the trigger event. So one doesn't have to know what it is. Though it's good to look at over all macro to see if the events seem real, or are over excitement and worry, that will eventually abate.

(For anyone not fully positioned the way they want, these possible triggers are good to know before, so it's easier to react at the last minute. )

The next part is knowing when to move back in. Various tools for that -- like VIX and SG's model on it. Capitulation itself. Simply buying on the way down and up, and skipping the timing.

The economy was surviving with oil up before. The decline in part or large part is because of layoffs and trouble in the oil industry. So prices go up, that cuts down money for consumers but they aren't spending it now, it seems like. Instead the better state of the oil industry on higher prices, may be a catalyst for better economics.

The rule I've seen is that higher oil always exists before recession, but not that higher oil always causes a recession.

So we may need to be closer to the events to see what's going to happen...

    SG:

My comment a few above of "So puzzled what make them bad buys. " was meant to be
"So,... puzzled what make them bad buys. "

It was just a casual glance at them, and a bit of puzzle. Not meant to be alarmist sounding. Ah, the benefits of a properly placed comma.

    Market's going up today over:

"Production cut chatter has oil flying

The chatter began earlier this week of some sort of looming agreement between Russian and OPEC for production cuts, and it's getting new life this morning."

Is this stuff manipulation? Anyone read more details on what's going on here?

If oil stablizes, it could make a big difference for the market/economy.
