  • BP cites escort service receiving $173K as abuse of Gulf spill damage claims [View news story]
It is sad that lawyers and people are so dishonest. I am in the Tampa area and business was down due to the economy but all these people want BP to pay for the downturn. They need to look at the politicians that brought about the housing bubble. I feel BP tried to compensate fairly but the vultures came in.

  • BP's tough talk will backfire, Gulf spill lawyer says [View news story]
The lawyers are advertizing get on board, even if you live inland. Never mind that the economy had turned South, milk BP. This has turned into a travesty of justice for those people that actually suffered a loss. Even out churches have been asked to file a claim. Duh!

  • How Wal-Mart Turbocharges Per-Share Earnings [View article]
I have not seen any shelves not stocked. We do not have a Costco nearby but WMT parking lot remains full. As to the stock, with the increase in dividend, it still is a shining star in my book.

  • Since February, BP has stepped-up challenges to compensation awards stemming from the 2010 Gulf oil spill. The company now objects to 9.3% of awards administered by Patrick Juneau who oversees settlement claims, that's up from just 4% earlier in the year. The company's lawyers are challenging the way Juneau calculates losses, although they have so far been unsuccessful. If an appeal of a District Court decision upholding Juneau's interpretation is denied, BP says it will be "irreparably harmed." [View news story]
It is down right wrong how people are bringing claims when the loss of business was the recession. I hope that the courts can weed these claims out from those that truly have suffered a loss.

  • Grocery sales in focus: Retail analysts note something doesn't add up with Wal-Mart's (WMT -2.6%) claim per Nielsen data that it's "winning" market share for its grocery business despite the retailer's overall sales slip. On a rough comparison, the company's grocery store sales are growing level with Safeway (SWY +0.2%) - but still trail the pace of Whole Foods Market (WFM -0.1%) and Kroger (KR) by quite a lot. Is Wal-Mart's grocery share gain at the expense of the dollar store group (DG, DLTR, FDO)? [View news story]
This winter the super Walmart had few empty parking spots. Now that the "snowbirds" have gone North it is not so crowded but quite busy. I don't see them hurting here in Florida. When the parking lots get empty, I will worry.

  • BP is calling in the big guns for help mitigating claims tied to the 2010 Gulf oil spill. The company wants British Prime Minister David Cameron to talk with U.S. officials regarding escalating payment claims, some of which BP says are "fictitious" and increasingly "absurd." The company has set aside more than $8B to cover so-called business economic losses. [View news story]
Here in Florida, lawyers are on TV saying that if you business was down, you are entitled to a claim even though you are not on the coast. This is unreal! The economy was down at the time and they are wanting BP to pick up the tab. This is in the Tampa area and we had no oil on our beaches. The lawyers want a windfall at BP's expense! Shameful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
