OW, I had a different experience, I went to my Verizon ( http://bit.ly/13OvdVw ) today to activate my 928, and not only did they have stock, but the (hot) girl waiting on me said "Oh! You're getting the Lumia, I'm waiting for mine!" She was very excited about the Lumia and very knowledgeable, all in all a good experience. I did ask a few people there about the Galaxy launch vs the L928 launch and they said the Galaxy launch probably had more people. (This is a great response as there was no scoff or chuckle.)
I waited for a clear moment and took this picture of the Lumia phones prominently displayed when you walk in, probably more prominent than any other. Also note today was the Galaxy S4 launch. http://bit.ly/Z4rLrA
PS. this is a big-deal location, El Camino Real in Santa Clara CA (heart of Silicon Valley.)
PPS. I took my new phone to my sons awards dinner tonight, and without knowing what I was doing, I shot some beautiful indoor shots without flash.
I plan on doing a insta blog to capture the positive experience. I have new faith in this Verizon launch. And a point to note: If Jordan (hottie) was not truthful about getting a Lumia, good on Verizon for instructing them so; and if she really was going to get the 982 (I believed her), then it's a ringing endorsement.
Long Nokia and..
I Love my Black 928!
PPPS. She ALSO let me know about the Comcast bonus deal (which I had already scored - $100 prepaid gift card.)
Blackberry (BBRY) is downgraded to Hold by Bernstein's Pierre Ferragu, who lowers his price target to $15 from $22. "We dislike the risk/reward of our BB10 trade," he writes. "With Blackberry Live behind us, we see few additional positive catalysts coming through in the next 6 months." Shares -2.3% premarket. [View news story]

I wouldn't attribute today's market wide dip to being 'bear caused'

@mvvh69,
"at the last chair holders meeting the sentiment was largely for dropping WP OS and joining the droid world. "
I don't think this is an accurate assessment. What we had was some loud mouths that don't speak for the rest of us.
" why wouldn't you go with the most secure and reliable OS available."
That's the beauty of it. Now IOS and Andorid KNOX are approved by the DoD and Microsoft/Nokia approval is just around the corner. So we can pick the phone we want!

"thesis is poorly stated and not well supported or researched. "
I don't think you offered anything to disprove his thesis. You simply disagree.
For example your statement "AAPL is also planning a low-end iPhone that will put additional competitive pressure at lower price points" does negate Tom's comment "by providing a superior experience for a better price than what is currently offered by either Apple".
The point being, Apple has nothing there today, which is everything. When they do, maybe then you can make this argument.

nothing wrong with my math there pj.
Also, you may want to rerun your search with "whatsapp" and not "whats app" as you are likely to get far more hits with the two words "whats" and "app".
@Marcap, another worthwhile data point is this article on wallstcheatsheet. Apparently BlackBerry is the "bottom of the barrel" in customer satisfaction.
"The American Customer Satisfaction Index conducts surveys with 70,000 participants looking at 230 companies, 43 industries, 10 economic sectors, and more. The ACSI recently published the results of its latest survey and showed Apple’s weakening grip on the throne."
"Bringing up the rear were LG Electronics and BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY). LG lost 4 points, dropping it down to 71. BlackBerry’s score didn’t change any from 2012 to 2013, but it remained at the bottom of the barrel with 69 points." http://bit.ly/16PEP9L

"i and might I remind people that BB is the most efficient with compression"
Nokia has an xpress browser that uses a proxy to compress web traffic before sending it to the phone. http://bit.ly/10MRsto
Nokia claims that webpages compress to 90% of their original so that downloads are roughly 3x faster.

But why wouldn't they just go out and buy a BlackBerry?

BBM crash: About 2,560,000 results
vs
WhatsApp crash: About 2,350,000 results
Again, consider WhatsApp has approximately 2.5 times as many users as BBM does.
Conclusion? WhatsApp is far more robust than BBM.

"Please provide some evidence that the Verizon comment is another unfounded rumor as you claim."
I think the burden of proof is on you to prove it is true.
Keep in mind, Bulls are held to account when pumping a stock just as Bears are held to account when correcting irrational exuberance.
