Three Considerations on the 'Too Big To Fail' Issue
has anyone mentioned that maybe all those banks and non-bank lenders would have better things to do than lend to people who coulnd not and would not pay, if only Fannie and Freddie did not crowd out the private sector out of the prime mortgage business? Perhaps we would not be here where we are today without them?

Why American Express Should Be Ignored
I think when the dust settles, we are going to see just how well CC debt holds up during the crisis. People walk off away from their mortgages because thats what they intended to do all along, but nobody can afford to give up their credit card expecially people with financial problems. Having no access to a credit card is worse than having no car in modern day america. In 2008-09, watch people going through extreme hardship and still managing to pay off the credit card...

Just ignore the self-serving short's comments.

Should VIX Really Be a Trading Tool for the Masses?
i have been trading the VIX futures almost exclusively between July 2005 and March 2006, using a specific quantitative model. The results were good, but the model stopped giving either buy or sell signals towards the end of that period, so i had to move on. Recently i see that the model is useful once again. So far so good, thank you.

Four Lessons I've Learned from Hedge Fund Managers
these are some prescient comments. the heterogeneity is so great that sometimes it is hard to believe that what the other guy is doing is even feasible (and the more successful, the more open about discussing their strategies they tend to be).
I have always thought that women should be better at fund management than men. I know a few very good mutual fund managers who are women, but what about hedge funds? Did you meet any successful hedge fund managers? That is other than the head of IKOS, Elena Ambrosiadou.

      Confessions of a Former Inflationist
Here is how to read Yellen's comments. Its like, "yes we will fight the wage-price spiral if it comes, wink wink ('cauz we all know it wont)". Here is another way to read it - "yes, we will fight the wage-price spiral because there is nothing we can do about the commodity-cost spiral".

3 Reasons For the Continuing Dollar Rally
the scenario i described could only be wrong with timing, but that does not change the conclusion. Besides both bankers, the Fed and ECB have stated clearly that they are done with their moves, so indeed if i'm wrong then only in the timing.

3 Reasons For the Continuing Dollar Rally
i think the people who are new to this, meaning trading/watching currencies for less than 5 years should realize that the medium-term future is quite predictable, and that currencies eventually react to the simple truth. And the simple truth is that the currencies with higher interest rates go up, while those with interest rates going down go down. And the medium-term future is written on the wall - ECB will be cutting next year as eurozone along with China and India slips into recession, while Fed will be raising rates as US exits recession. Anyone want to argue this is not precisely what's going to happen? And if we agree on that, then there is no doubt where the USD is headed either.

and very wrong! You dont tie up cash when you buy or sell futures. You put up collateral which earns interest, to boot.

The 'Problem' With Solar Companies is Not Really a Problem
like the optic fiber telecom companies in 1999, when the dust settles, you will find that ALL of the concerns were true. The accounting is bogus, the revenue increases are dependent on subsidies, the chinese yuan is rising, the global warming suddenly not such a priority anymore, wind power is cheaper (and cleaner), the stock market is in the middle of a bear market, etc...
