  • Did Herbalife Repurchase Shares While In Possession Of Material Non-Public Information? [View article]
If I was them I would have released the information, made a mis-step or two during the interview question period, then bought the drop like crazy.

The only material informatiion they would have had would have been available to everyone... Ie: That they were being investigated and their books are absolutely fine.

If anything the fact they didn't do this might indicate they are not as confident in their business as they say... Then again buying shares before a dip might be the best indication of all that they are confident of their model.

  • Understanding American Capital's 4Q2012 Earnings Announcement [View article]
I always enjoy your articles, but this one really addresses most of the concerns I had. I bought and sold ACAS for a slight gain after reading some articles that pointed out some issues... But you systematically addressed them all. Very excellent article, I think I might need to jump back in and realize a larger gain.

I'm anxious to get into ACAS as it makes the move to a dividend paying BDC... If it gets valued properly for it's investments, it's BDC portfolio, and it's incredible asset management (AGNC and MTGE are fantastic for the asset manager... And the investors) it'll get rewarded valuation-wise for the long-term. ACAS has been doing good work since the financial crisis.

The lowering leverage worries me, since I believe BDC's should be utilizing leverage to a great degree... But when you flirt with bankruptcy because of creditors, I can see why they are de-leveraging so agressively. Do you think they are aiming to operate with no leverage, and just use the cash they generate? Or are they just lowering it to a better level, and then keep it at that level going forward?

  • Amerco: Move And Store Your Cash In This Stock [View article]
Wow, I'm in Canada (so that might be why) but I didn't even realize U-Haul was a public company... FIrst article I've seen on it, now my interest is most definitely peaked. Looks like a great company (and I can see a 4% rise so far today indicates others think so too... Others that aren't stuck at work).

    Good article.

  • CenturyLink: How A 7% Yielder Hit Into A Triple Play [View article]
Very interesting, the yield is enourmous now. Share buy-backs should help allieviate the declining earnings (so long as they are not too bad).

Definitely interesting, like the dividend yield on the current price.

  • AGCO Corp. Significantly Undervalued At 9.5X Earnings With Major Growth Prospects [View article]
Definitely seems like a strong value play, since there are only 3 major players, would it make sense to purchase one (or both) of it's competitors to get the growth with good valutation along with it?

  • Best Bond Investment Strategy: 'Just Say No!' [View article]
I really have misgivings about putting anything in bonds, but all the literature has been pushing me to do so. Not that some cushion wouldn't have been nice during the last couple market pull-backs, I'm just not sure if it's worth it to lock in such terrible rates...

My question for you is how do you feel about using covered calls, preferred and convertible share funds, instead of bonds, in order to produce more reliable income (at the expense of total return). Do those types of funds offer a better trade off than pure-bond funds over the long and medium terms?

  • Timber REITs Crush 2012 Estimates And Look To Do The Same In 2013 [View article]
Good insight into a strong diversifying investment. I'm starting to consider TImber REIT's, I've heard they can be a strong asset class that deserves allocation seperately from typical REITs.

  • MLPs And The Hidden Benefit [View article]
Dividend Reinvestment Plan - Most brokerages offer the service for free, where dividends are reinvested. Brokerage plan will purchase however many whole shares, then the rest is distributed in cash.

If you invest directly with the company, some offer you a deal (up to 5% off the regular share price) and some offer percentages, so you effectively re-invest 100% of dividends.
